Scented Candles...Some Second Thoughts  |

|  It is raved that these scented candles could add a hint of romance to a meal or make taking a bath a real luxury.
Yet, U.S. researchers have come to conclusions that the smoke produced by many of them is laced with toxins linked to cancer, asthma and eczema.
After burning a variety of these scented candles and found those made of paraffin wax, the most common type, released potentially harmful amounts of chemicals such as toluene and benzene. Some of the pollutants have been linked to cancer, while others could trigger asthma attacks or skin complaints.
Guess what?
Most of those on sale in Britain, including many scented ones, are made of paraffin wax, a byproduct of the petroleum industry.
However, all is bleak and hopeless for the scented candle lovers as there is still an alternative for you. Just be sure that the candles you choose are Beeswax and Soy candles, which are given a clean bill of health in the tests but may not be agreeable with your pockets.
So, will you still continue your preference on scented candles? Do you have facts contrary to this report?

I am just more than happy to share and learn from other members as well. I feel that these exchanges can make a lot of difference from not knowing and certainly be wary of the dangers or seek out healthier or better alternatives.

| |  I love scented candles but agree that unless they are beeswax or soy they probably arent the best thing to be burning inside the home. A nice alternative would be an oil burner using a small beeswax candle to heat up an all natural oil which would still scent the home nicely without any chemicals being released into the air.

This is certainly a good idea scented beeswax or soy scented candles with essential oils, but could be quite heavy for some member's purse here.
If one can afford it, by all means. But, other than that either one should be healthy enough.

Well, you may want to teach them about these things as avoiding them may not be the better teacher here.
Besides, scented candles made from Beeswax and Soy are healthier and no ill effect alternatives. Especially when they are better than oral relaxants or anti stress pill medications. If you had not try it before, then I would really like to encourage you to do so. Lighting them while you have your bath is sufficient to rejuvenate and relax you.

| |  Well, that is sort of disappointing especially considering I use both scented candles and scented wax tarts in my home for scent. I don't think I'll stop using them, because after all, I'm subject to enough toxins in a daily basis, being a smoker, but I will probably use them less now.
