My mother, my grandmother, my husband and I went to an open air museum today. The museum that we visited is quite old, it was founded in 1931, so it already existed for many years. It is not very big compared to some of the other open air museums that I have seen, but it was very nice and peaceful.
The main building is an old farm, and it was very interesting to see the old furniture and the rooms in the building. There were a few things that I had never seen before, but my grandmother recognized most of things and she told us about them. She had seen some of the things in the home of her grandparents, and it was very interesting to listen to her stories.
I love visiting that kind of museums, and I think it is a nice way to learn something about the past. Have you ever been to an open air museum? Did you like it? Or do you prefer other kinds of museums? Which kinds?

Open air museums are wonderful for showing all of us how people lived in days gone by. Where I used to live in the Midlands and Cornwall in England, there are several open air museums, covering mining and other aspects of industry. The museums are staffed by volunteers dressed in costume, who actually do the things their ancestors used to do, and tell visitors more about those times. It's living history, and much more inspiring than exhibits in a glass case. Having said that, I find war museums very moving, reading letters written by serving soldiers who never made it home.
Anything that keeps the past alive is good, because our ancestors and the way they lived helped to make the world as it is today.

I also find it very interesting to see how people lived in the past. You mentioned volunteers dressed in comstumes, that is one of my favourite parts about the open air museums, and I think it makes the museum more interesting. In one of the open air museums in my country it is very hard to become one of those volunteers. Lots of people are interested and there is always a long waiting list.

I am never a fan of museum but this open air type makes me curious. What kind of museum is that? Sort of putting the displays in open air environment?
The only museum that I visited was about history of the country and other stuff. When I visited, there's an exhibition on paddy plantation and harvesting. There's a paddy museum in this country too but I've never been there.

The open air museums that I have visited have been a kind of villages. There are many old houses and you can walk around in the village and look at the houses and the surroundings. There are different kinds of herb gardens and there often goats, horses, sheep, geese or other animals. I like to look at old buildings for instanse the old farms, old schools or old windmills. During the summer months some people dress up in oldfashioned clothes and work in oldfashioned workshops.
