It is expected to be a very interesting football year, full of possible redemption and maybe a great player playing past his prime. Real life intruded into the Football world and brought tragedy and drama over the summer. Most tragic, Former All pro quarterback,Steve McNair of the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens, lost his life in a senseless, murder suicide. It is a reminder that even in the most stratisfied air of professional football, the players are not immune to the everyday problems all of us encounter.
Dante Stallworth, wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns was convicted of vehicular manslaughter and suspended from the NFL for the entire 2009-2010 season. Plexico Buress, former wide receiver for the 2008 Champion Giants, shot his way out of the league and is getting prepared to spend significant time in prison for illegal gun possesion and other charges. Many others encountered problems. Pacman Jones finally wore out his welcome and Terrell Owens is hanging on by a thread now in Buffalo.
Brett Farve has added more fire on the drama meter with his continuing retirement saga. Is he retired or is he not? Who is he playing for this year? The Packers, The Jets or The Vikings? Has Brett played way past his prime? It remains to be seen. The saga continues. Of course, the biggest drama to the 2009-2010 season will be the redemption journey of former all pro quarterback Michael Vick. Vick is coming back to the NFL after having spent two years away in prison for a dog fighting scandal. The Philadelphia Eagles elected to give Vick another chance to help back up Donovan McNabb. He can participate in practice and drills and meetings but must get permission to play in games. The sports world is waiting to see what will happn. Will his story be one of redemption or one of waisted opportunity and erosion of skills?
Our predictions for the 2009-2010 are
In the AFC we pick New England , Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Indianapolis, Miami and surprise Oakland to make the playoffs.
In the NFC, it will be:Philadelphia, Washington, San Francisco, Green Bay, Atlanta and Arizona will be there.
It will be a very interesting year.
