How do you feel about the newest on the wolf situation? |
|
The ranchers are trying to get a bill passed that will okay them killing them. We now have about 800 in Idaho and they are trying to okay them killing about 200. What are your thoughts and insights?>

celticeagle (4743) | 4 months ago | What you are saying is so true. I have worked on the wolf recovery board and am really very against the slotter of these beautiful animals. They are only doing what is instinctual for them. I think the ranchers are a bunch of big babies.

It's just recently that they've been making this comeback, because at one point they were almost hunted into extinction! Wolves are one of my favorite animals, and I hate the thought of them being destroyed for no reason other than people just want to shoot them. We don't shoot people when there's too many of us! What gives us the right? Yes, we're smarter and have the ability to reason and think, but that just means that we have to look out for those things that are smaller and weaker and less intelligent. It doesn't give us the right to just kill anything that we want to. That's not the solution at all.
I've protested wolf killings before, but I didn't know about this one until now. Thank you for sharing this with me and everyone else.
What are your thoughts about this situation?

celticeagle (4743) | 4 months ago | I think it is assinine. The wolf population has risen to about 800 and now they want to kill about 200. the ranchers didn't whine back it the mid 1800's. Why now? They just took after their business. Now the ranchers are becoming like little whiny kids.

|
| raineyes (77) | 4 months ago | It is assanine. Besides that, livestock kill more people in a year than wolves ever have. It's stupid to kill off the wolves for no reason. They're necessary to te ecosystem. Also, they are just now making a comeback with their numbers, just now living the endangered area that they've been in because of they way they used to just kill every wolf they could find.

4. JenInTN (3673) | 4 months ago | I would suggest catching 200 and introducing them to places in which they were at one time but are no longer at. I think that it would be better to do that than to kill them. There are a lot of states that used to have these animals that aren't lucky enough to have them anymore.

celticeagle (4743) | 4 months ago | It is a bit more complicated than that. A wolf has a 100 mile range or so and that would take money and work of alot of volunteers. We had that back afew when we were on the wolf recovery level of things. Not so anymore.

5. DawGwath (452) | 4 months ago | Ok, I love animals, especially wolves, but I am not enraged by such a bill, and I can explain why. Wolves are predators. I'm not really sure what's the extent of Idaho, but I know that 800 wolves can somehow not only be an extra population, but also can be a danger for farmers and travelers. Of course I do not encourage hunting for sport (unless it is authorized by some specialized organization), but I ensure you that if you were a farmer and your sheep began to disappear one by one, then you would be very willing to get your hands on the one that did it. And if wolves get so close to human territories, it means they're very very hungry (which means their number has increased dramatically and they're running out of food). Just my two cents, but I would be glad to be contradicted (with a good valid response).

celticeagle (4743) | 4 months ago | But the whole thing is so STUPID and SENSELESS!! Look at all the money they spent and time and enthusiasm to do the Wolf recovery just afew years ago. And now they just put a bill into affect whereby they can go kill the wolves they just got back inserted. And the ranchers have been deeling with this for generations. It is wildlife and nature at its best and the government is just going to let this happen. I am apolled!! What do they do when they anialate the wolf and the deer and elk and antelop become over populated or deseased? Spend money to go kill them when the wolf does it naturally. Kill off the wolf(only a matter of time) and we kill off ourselves!!!! They aren't necessarily very, very, hungry either. Like I said: This has been going on for generations. There are only 800 of them for god sake! That is hardly hoards of them. You have just gotten you good and valid response!!!! I am infuriated. All the work done and for what?? Didn't they look ahead and forsee this? If not, they should have. And, I would like to get a good and valid response to this. Thank you for your input.

DawGwath (452) | 4 months ago | Ok, so from what I understand, (in not many technical terms) first they ban hunting and spend money to protectm, to rehabilitate wolves and extend their numbers and now they remove the ban and allow hunting. Yeah, that doesn't make too much sense. And probably the number isn't that high, unless, as I said, they begin to migrate from their territories and approach human establishments. And even then, going on a killing spree is not the best solution. I guess you should make a petition, try to get some trusting organizations to defend them...

| 7. kima22 (3) | 4 months ago | Wow are you serious? That's absurd! Why would people even think of letting them kill off such a beautiful species? 200 is a lot for them to be killing! These kinda things get my blood boiling! I am a big animal lover and wolves are my favorites. I definitely think this is wrong! Killing off the species is not the right way to fixing their problems. Those ranchers should be glad the wolves don't decide to just bring the human population down around them!:D

| 8. starlight777 (68) | 4 months ago | This makes me feel absolutely sick to the stomach that people would consider killing off a species because they do what is so natural to them. I just don't understand it. They have a right to live in this world as much as we do and they are more apart of nature then we as a human race will ever be.

celticeagle (4743) | 4 months ago | Well, what if your government had just finished up on a law they had passed that said that the fox was an endangered species and it had worked so well that you now had over one thousand in population of the beautiful creatures in your state alone? (This is after several years of them being so low in population they were nearly extinct when they usedto inhabit an area from Canada to Mexico!)Then the ranchers step in (who have populated this land since the 1700's and have dealt with more wolves then than there is now or ever will be again.) AND, with their whining and belly aching got this new law passed where for seven months they can BUY THEIR TICKETS and have the right to kill a wolf! I can send you links of You Tube videos showing long strings of dead and bloody wolves that were not killed for meat or any reason but to satisfy big time ranchers. Now, why can't these rich ranchers pay to have the wolves relocated instead of just buy a $12 ticket to go kill one??!! It is just inhumane and idiotic to me to go kill these animals when the government just finished getting them repopulated! this seems really stupid to me.

| 10. prinny (23) | 3 months ago | I think its really unfair. The fact that they are trying to kill a good portion of them because their population is getting out of control. Why not kill humans instead then...? we humans are definitely destroying the planet more then 800 little wolves.
Humans who support this just fail and this is one act which proves it...
| |
| |
|
|
celticeagle (4743) | 3 months ago | Indeed! And, why put them on the endangered list, build their population back and then go shoot them!?? STUPID!
