i am checking the ticket and hotels in Bangkok. I never been to Thailand, but so of my friends been there before, they recommend to go there. I am thinking to stay there for 7 days or so for a vacation.
Have you ever been to Thailand, any suggestion on the place to go and visit?

Hello Vivianchen
Glad to hear that you will be going to Bangkok. Is it a holidays trip? I love Thailand, and I have been to certain city and island in Thailand which are Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and Hatyai. Bangkok is the capital of Thailand. I have been there 10 years ago. I still remember I went to a famous floating market and visit some temples there. But now I think Bangkok is a shopping heaven. All my friends tell me that you can shop till you drop in Bangkok, there are too much things to buy and all the price are very cheap! Mabe you can goggle search on what is the places of interest to visit! lol

I have been many times, and my wife is Thai, so maybe I can help you a bit.

Absolute first recommendation is the Royal Palace in Bangkok. Dress conservatively (they will advise you anyway if you are dressed inappropriately) with legs and arms covered. Given the very hot temperatures that can be a bit uncomfortable.

Then do the city and temples tour. They will show you some of the best-known Buddhist temples around the city. This can be very interesting, but make sure you have simple slip-on shoes as you have, according to Thai tradition, to remove your shoes before entering a temple.

The street markets are well worth seeing along Sukhumvit Road and Silom Road. There is also a very crowded night market in the sleazeball district of Patpong (stay in the market without problems - you are not obliged to go in the sleazy clubs).

Out of Bangkok you can visit the ancient capital of Ayutthaya and the Bridge on the River Kwai at Kanchanaburi (it is a bit tragic, but very peaceful with beautiful scenery up there).

Finally a couple of days at a beach resort might interest you, but I would advise against Pattaya (one of the sleazeball capitals of the world) though my wife likes the shopping there. Phuket would be a bit far unless you are prepared to fly. Koh Samui gets very busy these days. Cha Am is a nice place.

Hope this helps.

Hi Astonysh,
Thank you very much for your adivce. I think its very helpful. One of question, is Dec. a pack season to go to Thailand?

myLot reputation of 98/100. astonysh (1824)   ranked 499 out of 883 in travel the world  3 months ago

December is the peak of the tourist season - possibly the worst month to go, but with the world recession it might not be as bad as usual.

I would love to visit Thailand and if I did I would plan to see the capital city, Bangkok. There I would enjoy seeing the temples and the floating market. I am sure I would buy some handmade souvenirs. Then I would go on a train south to link up with a route to one of the tropical islands. In seven days you would probably have enough time to go to Bangkok and one of the islands as well. I hope that you will have a lovely time in the Land of Smiles.

happy

I have not been to Thailand yet. I have been to Hainan and I like it a lot. The beaches are beautiful in Hainan. But I heard that the beaches in Thailand are much more beautiful. Besides, the culture, food and everything will be quite different there and this is what I am interested in traveling there one day. Besides, right now the visa to Thailand is free of charge. So it is worth to going there.

Yes, until 2010 April, visa is for free, but as i am not living in Guangzhou, i still have to spend some money to ask a travel agent to help me get the visa, but it's still cheaper than before. We have the same reason loving travelling!
