Is it okay to still use these Duracell batteries dated MAR 2008?  | |  One of my siblings found my green Game Boy Color with a Pokemon Yellow game cartridge sitting inside its slot. I hadn't played that Game Boy in at least five years! I switched the power on, and the Game Boy's Power light flashed a bright red (which is a good sign).
The two Duracell AA alkaline batteries inside were dated March 2008 though. Is it safe to still use them?

Basically the expiration just means that the batteries may not work longer than the date specified. Believe it or not, batteries really do have a shelf-life (kind of like food), but instead of "going stale" or "rotting," they just lose their charge (their energy).
So, it's safe to use, but they just might not work.
