I know it runs in my family, so I try to be careful about what I eat and getting exercise. My father has had quad bypass surgery and both of his carotid arteries cleaned out within the past 5 years and he is only in his 50s. Now, of course, he is taking better care of himself, but he learned the hard way, that the damage and effects of hypertension cannot really be reversed and treatment is not so easy!
