I am using Dell optiplex 160L Desktop. Installed Windows xp. When i give shut down it reaches till Windows is shutting down and freezes.Need to shut down manually. I have tried many suggestions in google like scanning the system for virus and ccleaner etc. Even i tried setting reg editor to set the value 200 instead 20000. Nothing is working.

Hi,k4karthik.It is terrible ,but also interesting. You might attacked by virus, there may be something with your computer programme. You can update your antivirus software, then scan it.If it doesn't work, you can install your OS again.

One cause of this is the persistent saving of a failed write on a storage media. Most probably the storage media has error or it is no longer available like a shared network drive or a removable drive. I believe ccleaner can fix the registry for this error, and a chkdsk for HDD access error. You can also try to shudown using a different account say Guest acount and see if its the same.
