Do you know when did WWII start? | | Yesterday I watched a quiz show in tv about World War II and I was shocked. There was a part when they showed a vtr from different parts of the world asking History students about place and date of the begginig of WWII. While most of them knew the answer students from USA seemed pretty oblivious about it. I thought it was a joke because I belived that everyone knew it. So how about you? Do you know when (and where) did WWII start?

Even if that was not a global conflict, that war lasted for a long time and its final part is considered a part of WWII. If a part of this war is considered part of WWII, why shouldn't the entire war be? And since it began in 1937, I consider that to be the start of WWII.

However, the build up started from 1933 when Hitler was elected chancellor and began rearming and preparing for war, and cranked up in 1938 with the invasion of Czechoslovakia, Kristallnacht in Germany, when the Jews were subjected to such ferocity, and the annexation of Austria. The invasion of Poland in September 1939 kicked everything off, although there was a period of 'phoney war' which ended in May 1940 with the invasion of France and Norway.

But if we traced back the significant time of the beginning of World War II, it is always rooted on the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on January 1918, ten months before the signing of Armistice. The Treaty of Versailles was considered by Germany as harsh and unfair, some historians would refer it as a treaty against Germany. The animosities felt during those times were reinforced and eventually cemented on the signing of Armistice on November 11, 1918 at 11:00 am at Compiegne Forest, Germany, though this event marked the end of World War I, another great war loomed on the horizon.
Reasons of World War II became legends as number of demands by Germany during the signing of Armistice was left unrealized. It eventually created tension when the Armistice dissolved the German empire, crashed the German army and gave heavy punishment on Germany. These hidden pains of the Germans nurtured deep inside which was dig by Hitler, eventually lead to the second World War which became the most brutal wars in history with more than 70 million dead mostly civilians.
