Do you have any superstitions? |
|
Are there any things in your life that you are superstitious about? Like not washing clothes on a certain day of the year, or spilling salt and throwing a pinch over your shoulder? If so, what is it and how did you get that way? Was it something passed down from your family? I find it interesting to hear what others have to say.

2. lelin1123 (4446) | 4 months ago | The first thing I thought of when reading this is the number 666 I don't like that number at all. I also realize I like only even numbers and so if I'm doing something in regard to numbers its has to be even numbers. This was not passed down from family its just something I acquired in my life. There are probably more things but I can't think of them now.

| Dragonfly4life (22) | 4 months ago | I hadn't thought of that number in association with this, but I don't like it either. There used to be someone I worked with that had the 666 in their phone number and I often had to give that number out, so I broke it up when I said it. Maybe a bit superstitious on my part. Thanks for the comment!

3. miller1978 (952) | 4 months ago | I do the salt throwing over the shoulder and it's just something I picked up. Also everyone seems to think the number 13 is bad luck, but I actually think of it as good luck. I also believe in not walking under the ladder because it brings bad luck. Just like a penny, you find one laying on the ground face down, leave it be, you find it heads up, pick it up and it will change your luck.

| Dragonfly4life (22) | 4 months ago | Well, I too do the salt thing. I also like the number 13 because my Grandmother was born on a Friday the 13th, so our family always felt good about it. Walking under a ladder just seemed to me like asking for trouble to fall on you in a common sense sort of way. And I love pennies! Any way - any condition, because I look at them as a sign that my Mom is aware of me and sending me encouragement from the other side. I've had pennies turn up in the strangest places when I really needed some encouragement. I find it interesting because somehow I never heard about the face up or down thing until recently. Good comments, Thanks.

| 4. gmode8 (47) | 4 months ago | No I am not at all superstitious. I am a logical person who knows that such things are ridiculous and not at all scientific in any way. Sorry, I guess that wasn't very interesting

| Dragonfly4life (22) | 4 months ago | Don't be sorry, I really wanted to know what folks thought. I consider myself mostly logical, but there are so many things that we don't know about our brains and how they work and what affects them that I like to keep an open mind about it. Thank you, I glad you joined in.

5. merlinsorca (539) | 4 months ago | I've learned from my parents not to wash my hair on birthdays of people I know. I don't know how this came to be, but it's just a superstiton to never wash your hair on your birthday...

| Dragonfly4life (22) | 4 months ago | That's cool. That's the kind of thing I mean. You just wonder where it came from, how it got started and how old the custom is. Good thing my Birthday's passed this year and so have most of the others I know, or I might be rethinking my beauty routine....That was cool, Thanks!

6. de_angel97 (143) | 4 months ago | No, i am not superstitious at all, for me all this thing is just hold you down from doing something at a particular time. People around me believe in a lot of superstitious things, for an example, do not say out loud the bad and negative things, or something you really want to it, but you can't have it at that particular moment. let say 'thief', they spell it T.H.I.E.F instead of pronounce it. At first i was stumped, and felt want to laugh, but luckily i didn't. It never a good thing to make fun of people belief.
There is one thing that i did, i didn't consider it as a superstitious, because i didn't believe it. There is something like ghost in my place named 'b**** b*****', people said if you pronounce it, it will be at your house that night. I'm such a chicken, even i don't believe it, but my chicken's heart not dare to pronounce it, so i used to say 'b square' (b to the power of 2):)

| Dragonfly4life (22) | 4 months ago | I actually had an experience of my own with what you say out loud when I was a teenager. Several friends and parents were talking and someone brought up being in a car wreck. I said I'd never been in a car wreck and the conversation went on from there. Well later that evening I went with some friends as a passenger and the driver got in a fender bender - nothing bad, but Wow was I surprised. The next day was Saturday and that afternoon I went with another friend and someone hit us from behind. WOW! We were okay, but I really was shaken and it made me think about what I put out there with my words. A funny end to the story - so the next day is Sunday and we're getting ready to go to church, so I go out to the car and wait for my Grandfather to unlock the car door to let me in. I kept waiting - everybody was in the car but me. Finally he asked me where I was going and I said, "To church." He smiled and said, "Not in my car you're not. I want to bring it home in one piece." We all laughed and he finally let me in. Luckily it was an uneventful trip. But being in 2 wrecks in less than 24 hours? It made me wonder. I'm glad you reminded me of it. Thank you. It does make you wonder....

7. much2say (683) | 4 months ago | I like to think that I am not a superstitious person, but I will admit there is something that urks me as a superstition. I am "American" but second generation of my culture . . . and all my life I've been told this. That the number four (4) and number nine (9) are bad luck. Four is a part of the word "death" . . . and nine is part of the "to suffer" - at least in Japanese (not sure if it's for all Asian cultures). So, for instance, if there is a couple who's ages are 4 or 9 years apart, my family is the first to say that's not good. So now I have this "thing" that 4 and 9 are not good. We are soon to be a family of 4 . . . and I come from a family of 4 . . . so obviously it is a silly superstition that is not true . . . but anytime I come across those numbers, the silly superstition comes to mind.

8. VANILLAREY (1101) | 4 months ago | I don't like it when someone calls me or talks to me when I am about to go someplace or leave the house. Its considered bad luck. So If it happens I return or sit at home for a while then start again.
