Choosing a good camera.

Hello friend. My hubby is very fan of cameras. He likes the old camera using negatives. His not so keen with digital. I like using Digital cameras.
We fight and argue which one is the best but everytime we taking photos mine comes out better...but still he insist the quality is not as good as using negatives.
And now we realise its not the camera that take good photos its the photographer.

If you can afford it, buy an SLR camera. The larger lense and larger image sensor will give you much better results than a compact camera.

If you want a compact go for the advanced models from Nikon, Canon or Panasonic.

well it all depends on how you are going to use the camera or where you are going to use it. in truth, there is not really one best camera. which camera is best depends solely on the user. as great as a camera is, if the user will not be able to use the functions effectively then what's the use? don't choose a camera because other people says it is the best. choose a camera because it is what's best for you. if you are serious about photography, dslr cameras are the way to go. they may be expensive but personally i think that they have more advantages than using regular point and shoot cameras. there are also a lot of brands to choose from which is entirely up to you. you can first choose which models appeal to you and then make sure that when you go to stores, check each and every one of them and check if you will be able to use all the features. remember that good photography doesn't necessarily comes out from a good camera. a big percentage of it comes from the photographer.:)

This is a question that is all too common on most photography forums and there's really no simple or easy answer. Choosing the "best" camera would really depend on a lot of things. So, instead of recommending for a specific brand and model, I will recommend that you consider the following:

1. For simplicity, let's categorize it into two only: Compact point & shoot and Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR)

A. Compact point & shoot (recommended for casual user)

Advantages

a. light and portable - easy to carry around, anytime, anywhere
b. easy to use - just point and shoot
c. relatively cheap

Disadvantages

a. fixed focal length/range
b. can be difficult to use in low light situations
c. not recommended for action shots
d. not recommended for professional use

B. Digital SLR

Advantages

a. lots of changeable lens line-up
b. lots of room for creativity
c. better quality images

Disadvantages

a. can be bulky and cumbersome to carry anywhere
b. relatively expensive
c. can be too complex to operate

2. Feel the size and weight. If you have friends to borrow, better so that you can feel how it fits your hands. Or simply try it in shops, they normally allow that.

3. Know your intentions and purposes for buying a camera. Do you want something that is simple to use or something that is complex but will definitely give you flexibility and room for upgrade.

4. Join photography forums and try to know what's popular and why? Pay attention to features and not just because of the brand name.

5. Lastly, know the after sales support. This is equally important as this will determine the longevity of your camera. Your camera is a precision instrument not just a simple gadget. That's why it needs maintenance from time to time. Hence, availability of parts and a service center is a must.
