If Ninoy Aquino plotted the blueprint to regain our democracy from a tyrant by virtue of his fateful return and the Filipino People rose from slumber with massive global protests against the regime...

if Cory Aquino provided its layout by virtue of heeding to the call of the people and the Filipino People followed her from rigorous moments of national campaigns, to EDSA where a new dawn of democracy once again shone, to her entire presidency & post presidency upto her very grave where millions shed unending tears in gestures of support & gratitude to her...

then, Noynoy Aquino should finally establish its actual implementation by virtue of accepting the torch of legacy from his parents, the Philippines' most beloved couple, and the Filipino People will unite once more in tying a yellow ribbon come May 2010 election.

It's a flawed logic to begin with.

"the Filipino People rose from slumber with massive global protests against the regime..."

There were never massive global protests in the aftermath of Ninoy's assassination. His funeral was the biggest rally during that time, but it wasn't global. It wasn't even nationwide, albeit Metro Manila and urban centers like Cebu, Davao and Baguio were the main centers of protests.

"if Cory Aquino provided its layout..."

Cory was the unifying force of a fragmented opposition, but the layout has been laid out in 1984 when Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) was organized by civil society groups, and that layout was further fine-tuned when the middle forces split with the leftist forces within BAYAN and joined the newly organized Kongreso Ng Mamamayang Pilipino (KOMPIL) of the business sector. Even before Cory became a political figure, the groundwork for EDSA was already laid out by civil society groups under the umbrella of KOMPIL. UNIDO, the political party for which Cory ran as a candidate is only a small part of KOMPIL.

"Noynoy Aquino should finally establish its actual implementation by virtue of accepting the torch of legacy from his parents"

It would be swell if children also inherit the parent's virtues. Alas, it isn't the case. The only thing we inherit are our parent's name and their wealth. But integrity and moral virtue is not inherited - it is the product of our own doing. Noynoy is not the oratorical genius that Ninoy was. And neither is Noynoy the compassionate person that Cory was. Noynoy's parents were great personalities. But greatness is not inherited. BongBong Marcos did not inherit Ferdinand Marcos' legal brilliance. Julian Lennon did not inherit John Lennon's humanity and musical gift. And Don Trump did not inherit Donald Trump's business acumen. We all have to make a name for ourselves, and not bask in our parents' spotlight.

To apportion Ninoy's and Cory's legacies to any of their children, not just Noynoy, would demean and degrade what those legacies stand for. Ninoy did not sacrifice his life simply for it to be used as a marketing tool for his son's electoral ambition. It's almost an insult to Ninoy's legacy.

I am very sorry if you chose to read my discussion in a myopic point of view. However, I would lie to myself if I denied the beauty of your rhetorics.

Certainly, there was massive global protests caused by Ninoy's assination. When I said it I meant all kinds of protests. People didn't have to go to streets to stage their protests. The Filipino People who hated the regime all of over the world had their own participation in this so called massive global protests whether it was publicized, broadcasted, or not. And I don't think I have to elaborate further in this matter.

On Cory providing a layout, I meant Cory being the layout here. She came out from her comfort zone and provided herself as an actual layout to the nation for the restoration of democracy. She could have said no but she believed she was it and the nation needed her; so she decided to heed the call.

What about Noynoy? Did I mention that he has to inherit his parents' legacy to establish the implementation of democracy? Never did I mean anything of the sort. That's why you were right about the Marcoses, Lennons, & Trumps. I just can't believe I am giving this explanation. However, let's try reading between the lines here. I said all Noynoy had to do was to emulate his parents by accepting the torch of legacy. By doing this, he also has to heed call and follow the guidelines that his parents believed and died for.

You make a very valid argument, my friend, and in no terms was I putting it down. I just find it a bit flawed. Because if we really want to pass Ninoy's and Cory's legacy, shouldn't we rather search for a more qualified candidate who is willing to govern based on the principles we fought for in EDSA? Why shouldn't we limit it to Ninoy's progeny when arguably there are 90 millions Pinoys to choose from who may lead this country into real progress?

While what you said was all true and beyond contestation, I just wanted to express my personal view on the current turn of events in our beloved country. Whether we choose Noynoy or somebody else who is more qualified than him, we are united in our hopes for a better future in the Philippines in the hands of a better leader.
