Playstation 3 SLIM - opinions  email this discussion to a friend?

czerpaolo (7) 3 years ago

Playstation 3 is priced at $299. They say that this console is lighter, more energy efficient, slimmer (of course), new buttons, and has 120GB HDD.. (New firmware also)

Do you have any doubts about its cooling features? Was it enough?
Did PS3 SLIM solved the YLOD issues? How many hours you spend in gaming?

Do you think its far more better than the thick version?

I think new slim is better than older version of PS3 but i am getting my PS3 80GB from friend for 175$ XD so i think i am willing to take the lesser modle since it cheaper and under 5 months old.

Only difference is that you dont have backwards compability and you cant install linux that about it......

O.o answer is....... PS2 which u can get for 50$ used at gamestop..... and just use PS3 slim in peace...

Other PS3s will go down in price except maybe the 60GB ones that are most backwards compabile with PS2 games....

Especialy since 80GB PS3 went down 100$ but is still sold for same price as slim...

I consider buying the new PS3 slim, but only when this console is getting cheaper. In Germany the new version of the PS3 is brand new on the market. So I will wait and see. The lost ability to install Linux on it is bearable for me, because the main reason for buying that device is to play games and perhaps to surf on the Internet. That's all. Maybe I will buy the former version of PS3, it depends on the amount of money that I am able to spend. But I know for sure, that I will buy the PS3 and not the xBox or Wii, because I have a big flat screen tv and finally, I want to watch BlueRay movies! :D

ya i got to get my HDIM cabal or something for xbox 360 and ps3 =D so that i can @.@ ENJOY VIDEO GAMES to Fullest on both systems... =P but i wouldnt have my hopes up for price going down till next year...

because they just puted it down 100$ i really doubt they would put it any lower unless it with a deal or something like...........

349.99$ with a 65$ game included into the price O.o

so very small chance it go down even more this holiday

I still have the original ps3 since launch..

Hasn't overheated and still running smooth.

And I hope you get your systems hooked up with HDMI..

OH! I brought this back to life... The Slim doesn't have backwards compatibility, but sony's been talking about bringing back PS2 emulation through software as opposed to hardware as the 60 did. I still have my 60 gig, it did over heat, and I did pay to get it sent back to sony and fixed, in the mean time I bought the Slim.

Before that though, my friends and I were looking at the slim and wondered, why is it the same price as the 80 and for the life of us we couldn't figure it out. We spent hours and days trying to find out why! and then one day as we were talking about Modding our PS3s to play ISOs it dawned on us the reason why.

All of the old PS3s have a HD bay on the bottom of it labeled HDD. What most people don't realize is that in the manual it says that breaking the seal and opening the PS3 voids warranty... BUT! Upgrading your HD doesn't void warranty since you don't break that seal and the bay is easily accessible... I put a 500 GIG in my PS3 a friend of mine has 1TB in his...

That's when it dawned on us... the Slim is the same price as the last gen 80 gig because the HD is integrated... no upgrading can be done on a slim. I love my 60 gig but I do like the Slim as well. I play alot... if I'm not on my computer or at work. I'm on my PS3. As for the slim being far better then the thick one... IMHO I don't think so, it's about the same if you really weigh the options.
