If a doctor suddenly had a heart attack while doing surgery, would the other doctors work on the doctor or the patient?

I think that if this happened there would be more than enough staff (nurses/other doctors) to take care of both.

My sister is a nurse in the OR at a hospital in Detroit MI. She told me once of a doctor fainting during a surgery. She said they are trained for this. They do a triage on what they do next. As far as an answer to your question, just guessing but I would think that it would depend on where they were at in the surgical procedure. Most nurses have the training to deal with anything, and there's always other doctors there. Room 412 STAT, would get a fast response! tdemex

Hey, Look if the main doctor gets a heart attack then he should be operated first. Its common sense as if he gets sick the patient is bound to suffer as he was one one who was operating him. Cheers, Tutul
