What's the most remarkable instance of animal intelligence you have seen or heard of? How did it make you feel - disconcerted, fascinated...what?
I can think of a few examples but one that springs immediately to mind is watching a parrot on a documentary naming objects, shapes and colours - i found a link before writing this:

My dog Maggie (who passed away this spring from old age) was the smartest and sweetest dog I ever knew. She saved my life and the life of my unborn child! One night I was sleeping while pregnant with my first child, and Maggie came up and kept nudging me with her snout until I woke up - coughing - I had been sleeping on my back and had a very bad bloody nose (pregnancy causes nosebleeds in some people) which was causing me to be unable to breathe since I was sleeping on my back and the blood was collecting at the back of my throat and choking me. Had Maggie not nudged me until I woke up, something tragic may have happened to myself and my baby. I miss her terribly.
