How Did You Survive During Your Unemployed Days??

Philippines
September 5, 2009 7:54am CST
I believe before you become employed on your current job, you have been a member of unemployed people. I am just curious on how will you able to survive during your unemployed days? What makes you busy during that time? Do you go out of your house to apply for a job or you just apply through online?Do you depend on your parents during that time or you have your own savings to feed yourself? With my experience, when I am still unemployed, I make myself busy applying for a new job. I use to do it through so that it will save my time and money. What about you?Share your opinion. happy mylotting!!

"i have been a couple of years back and its quite tiresome and well boring. and besides we dont have the money to buy the things we usually like to have."It was so sad with the couple of years that you become vacant. That's fine. The most important thing is that you have your current job now. what we should look into is the current situation of our life now. I'm sure, if before you can't buy the things you want, now you can buy even two pieces of that item simply because you have an offline job and as well as part time online job. happy mylotting!

That's Unemployed for a Year to me. I never really thought of that ever since the crisis, and when i realized that I just lost my edge in the Call Center after Leaving Teletech last year.I have have discover Video Editing and Mylot or other money earning sites, but I've lost the opportunities that i should have taken. my co-workers are at their best in the CSR in different companies..I, just stuck in the same dark spot.I was busy applying for a job too but when ever i feel like leaving my mom alone at the house, i think twice of taking the night-shift over.. *To those who still have jobs, KEEP them, when you get bored, find something that would excite you rather than quitting* Sometimes I regret it. but since I am still single, i believe my time will come again. PS: Hope you reached the blue star sooncongrats...

*To those who still have jobs, KEEP them, when you get bored, find something that would excite you rather than quitting* very well stated my friend Letran. that is why i still am keeping my job though its a little bit boring at times. but when quarter ends comes, whew... another hectic schedule for all of us again. but quitting is not in my list for a moment. but rather finding more extraincome for me to go on with life, for me and for us!!! jhelai

I was lucky because during the brief brief period that i was unemployed... i still had money saved from my previous job... so i was not in a hurry to get a job... and i was willing to accept anything even if the pay was low... as long as i won't be bored at home... and since i had money then... i would easily resign from a job if i did not like the company's policies... so in a span of 4 years... i had like 4 jobs... and the current one is the job i lasted the longest and still counting...

"i still had money saved from my previous job... so i was not in a hurry to get a job... and i was willing to accept anything even if the pay was low." You are very lucky that you have savings.with me, when I was unemployed, I don't have money or any saving since I just graduate that time. When i applied for a job, its my Mom and my brother who supported me in everything that I need for the application. As of this moment, I am 1 year and 5 months in my current company, but still it is hard for me to save since I have a lot of things to settle during the pay day.thanks for sharing. happy mylotting!

"I am setting aside money so when time comes and I have no work,I have something to financially rely on." Wow!I envy you for that.I have my job but I can't save money for myself. Every time I get my salary I have to divide it for my mom, my bills, my allowances, etc. It is really hard to budget my salary. I hope my salary will increase but I think its impossible, it might happen but I think it will take more years. I am planning to transfer to a new company that will give more earnings to me.happy myloting!!

i live up to my savings in my good days which is prepared for this kind of rainy days. not only me, lots of friends around me use the same way to survive their rainy days. of course there are a few who live up on their close relations but most of us will not choose this way.

It is good to hear that you have savings with you. With me, I do not have any single penny. After my graduation, my Mom was the one who supported me in all the documents needed for me to apply in a job.

During days when i was unemployed my parents supported me. During the days when i was employed i managed to save some money and invest which gave good returns.I used to watch a lot of movies during my unemployed days.I learnt a lot about investing and stock market during such times.I used to drown in drinks to overcome my sad days.I always apply for a job through post or personally, my attempts to secure one through net have always been futile.I feel it is better to learn a new skill or do a lot of reading to acquire more knowledge as it might prove useful in future.

I have being in your shoes so I know what you are going through. I was unemployed from June to August. When I was not working, I would spend about 5 to 6 hours looking for jobs online. I use to spend more time, but there was no job so I would become depressed. I realized that I had to make a change so I started going to businesses and asking to speak to the human resources rep. Most times I got the run around so I was back to square one. I had to come up with another plan so what I did was investigate working at home opportunity. I found ratracerebellion.com. I was able to find a part time job. I reduce my job hunting hours. I start exercizing, going to the county pool, reading. It did wonders. What you need to do is find something you enjoy and do it also because if you don't you would certainly become depressed. Good luck.

Being resourceful always get a positive output. And you are one of those people. You should be happy. With me, I applied online for a week, after a week I have received a lot of phone calls and e mails. There is one company that requires me to go their office and bring with me my credentials.I am so glad that company hires me and that is the company that I am currently working right now. happy mylotting!

My husband just lost his job, and my salary had been reduced in half for the past year. Luckily, we had built up a lot of equity on our home and have gotten an equity line which we are using to get us through this tough time. I've been polishing up our resumes and sending them out both online and in person. It's tough, but I try to meet every day with a positive attitude and know that somehow, God will get us through. We are both healthy, have 2 fantastic kids and so far are managing to keep up. I thank the Good Lord everyday when I open my eyes, knowing that I have another chance and that this might be the day he lands a job. In the meantime, we just take it one day at a time, and try our best to get through it. Hope you find a job soon!

"My husband just lost his job, and my salary had been reduced in half for the past year."It was so sad to hear from you that you are experiencing this situation as of this moment. A lot of companies are closing right now due to recession, I know your husband is a skilled worker, his employer has no option as of this moment but to lessen the number of employees. But do not be sad.Always bear this on your mind: "God never closes the door without opening the window". Just keep your faith on him. hope this helps.happy mylotting!

It will be very difficult for me to spend time during unemployed time. Even now if I take one week leave and go home, I will get bored aft6er two or three days. I will be very excited on the first day about going home and meeting parents. After two or three days I will be bored and badly feel to get back to my busy days. When I am busy, I hate it, but when I get absolutely free, I really hate it and want to go back to busy time.

You should be glad because you have a one week leave. that is the only time that you can put away the stress that you are experiencing in the office.I am very sad that I have already used all my vacation leave. i am already very tired with my job, I can still have my vacation leave next year. You should enjoy it and never feel bored, go out with your friends and have some hang outs!thanks for sharing!happy mylotting!

Then after that i survive because one company called me and ready to report the next day. happy mylotting and smile always!

It's good to hear that you have just become unemployed for just in one month, there are lots of people that have been unemployed for almost a year. They find it very hard to apply for a new job due to economic crisis. Just like you, all my savings was also gone during the time that i am unemployed, I spend it in getting requirements for a new job application. Its good to hear that you already have a new job now. keep up the good work. As of this moment, I am already happy with my current job now, happy mylotting!

Hi, If you want me to share my unemployed experience, i have to say i am only unemployed when i was a student. After graduation, i was employed to date. But if i was really unemployed, it would be terriable for me, as i have to make money for survival and my house load. If i am unemployed, i think i can only hold several months. So i have to work hard to keep my work. Thanks for god i still have job!

We almost have the same experience. After my graduation, I easily look for a job. After a week of application, I was hired by one company. I was very excited because that is my target job when I was still studying because it is giving a big salary, unfortunately, I only lasted for 3 months in that company since I was not able to meet their requirements. I became very sad, but that's fine, I found out that it is really hard to be in this field, but I never lose hope, I look for another job in the same field. So far i have been successful in the same field.I am already 1 year and 5 months in our company now.thanks for sharing!happy mylotting!

In my part its really hard for me being unemployed before because It almost takes 2 years for me to find a job. During my unemployed days i focused on how to find a work and how to enhance my speaking ability or communication skills so that I can easily find a work. It really gets me depressed after so many rejections and I asked my self what is wrong with me. i just think that if its not really meant to me so its not no matter hard i try. But I already got a job this year. Thanks a lot

During unemployed days, I depend on my parents for money. During this time, I would look for jobs or just hang out with friends. If I do need money urgently, I would put in a lot of effort in trying to find a job. I do try to get my friends to recommend me.

After school, I was employed 5 days after graduating. Struggled through it and been bumping around companies for about 10 years (without let up). In this "crunch", it's been tough getting a descent job as a network engineer due to the tough competition in the Philippines. Tried to put up my own business in line with my passion - Interior Design/Architecture. Built it but never had a project in 2 years. In Filipino custom, families are tight knit. My siblings tried their best to support me and my family and we survived. August 2009 came and finally and fortunately, I got my first project. I admire my brothers and sister for sticking with me and supporting. I would've done the same though. So now, I hope this project is a start of something really big. Would like to return the favor as much as I can - 2-folds.

Hi Rberon, Talking about unemployed, it makes me think of my past when I was still in Singapore. After I graduated from my university, I was unemployed for about 3-4 months until I got my first job in a trading company and I worked there for about 2 years ++. Due to the work loaded and stress, I decided to left the company and find another better job. During that period of my job hunting, I was unemployed again for another 1 month till I got another new job in a bank as Call Centre Customer Service. It is a shift work. I have to work during weekend and some times even have to work till night time. But what to say, the salary offered to me is not bad and it is a new experience for me. But I was not long in that job too.It was about 6-7 months, then I left the company. My 3rd job was also in a bank and it was the same position too like my 2nd job.I was there for more than 2 years before I decided to married and settled down back to Malaysia with my husband. During my unemployment time after I graduated, I still have to depend on my parents for my living expenses,But once I got my first job and have pay every month to my bank a/c, I stopped using my parent's money and I was supporting myself all the while.

explore all possibilities, either u apply online or in person. a little help from the parents is expected because u are not earning yet. by the way, i was looking for ur started discussion that i read last night on earning money on youtube. i also commented last night that i am interested but seems i could no longer find that particular discussion. i have requested to be added as ur friend too.
