Yup, you've read correctly, this one makes #11. He's so skittish of everybody and everything. It took some coaxing to get him to come to me, and of course, a bowl of can cat food. After a few days of trying he now he comes to both hubby and I to be petted and loved. He allows us to pick him up and pet him but when he wants down, he'll lunge after us as if he were to bite but he doesn't clamp down so I don't get upset but gently let him go. Actually now, I just hold him loosely so if he wants down, he can go as he pleases. We've named him Lil Tux because of his black and white coat. When he first came to us, he was really scrappy looking! I had put some revolution on him to get rid of the fleas, ear mites and worms he might have had. Then about a month later, I put frontline on him to get the fleas AND ticks. He looks so much better than he did and his coat is starting to shine. Another thing, the second time I saw him, he had this huge gash in his forehead as if some wild animal had gotten a hold of him and tore his forehead really bad. I didn't know if he was going to make it or not but I was able to put some pet medicine on his head which helped to heal it a great deal. He has a chirpy meow, very sweet and soft. He isn't fixed but soon will be! I'm not sure where he came from but I do have a feeling he was dropped off here and left behind just like Sammy, Spotty and Dreamer. For the life of me, how can someone do that? I can not and will not turn them away! They have wants and needs too just as any human does and I will see to it, to the best of my ability that they get all that they need and are well cared for. My furry friends will have a home always as long as I'm alive.
Have you ever taken in a stray before? Do you get them fixed? Or do you just shoo them away? I couldn't do that no matter what! They'll get fed before I do!

Mostly that is what I get, strays and abandoned pets. I get their needs taken care of and get them fixed.Sometimes I have to let them go. Sometimes I get them taken care of and they disappear. It can be expensive.

I have a few rescues myself so yeah, I know how you mean it can be expensive but, if it weren't for us looking out for them, where would they be? I don't even want to think about that because there are so many of them already there and/or worse. We can do our part the best we can and that's all we can do. Although there's no wings on our backs or halos on our heads, we do have a lot of love to give!!

Aww--Lil Tux is adorable. In years past I most certainly did take stray furbabies...let's see, there was Friskey, Buffy, Bobbie, Taffy, Tippy, Biddy and Whoopi --all have been in rainbow bridge for years now though

Oh I KNOW YOU took in quite a few strays, knowing YOU!! LOL Since moving here, we've taken in Trixi, Sammy, Big Boy, Dreamer, Spotty and Lil Tux. Trixi has passed over the Rainbow Bridge a couple of years ago. She was so cute! and oh so sweet! I hope to meet with them all who've passed on when my time comes. I just hope it isn't any time soon because I have more to rescue once a few of these pass on. Gee, strays are coming out of the woodwork here.... makes me wonder what my neighbors are thinking..... especially the one to my left.... he doesn't like cats. Says he'll never hurt one but he doesn't like them. I say, dare him hurt one of my fur babies!! God help him if he ever does!!

I take in strays all the time..................mostly people! LOL My hubs is not really into animals and he gets right uptight when I want to bring one home or let one stay, but it's harder for him to be rude about the people he finds in our living room from time to time! LOL Lil Tux sounds like a beautiful cat MB. I'm glad he found you!

My hubs was the same way Sparks but he got over it!!
LOL He knew how I was before he married me so it's not like it's something new. He protests but he knows that once a cat is here, it's here to stay UNLESS we know it belongs to someone else.

First off I applaud you. Eleven cats is a lot and it takes a lot to keep them healthy. I have eight cats and they are all indoors. They get taken to the vet on a regular basis and they have all been fixed. All of my cats have been saved as well. They were all strays except for two. We got Ghost from my moms pole barn and she was meowing but it took a while to find her so that is why we decided on that name. Boo came two weeks later when our cousin had cats. We picked the runt of the litter. Next came Echo. He showed up in our garage and he was in need of help. His ribs were showing and he was all matted.
Then we saved Ash. He was living with pigs and was so small we had to bottle feed him. Then Frost came on my moms birthday. He walked into the sliding glass door and started eating so we knew he could not be turned away.
Karloff was wandering around by my sisters house. We called him over and he snuggled right up to my boyfriend.
Then Ginger came, A friend had found her and she survived on grass and leaves and sticks.
And last came Wednesday. We almost ran him over with our truck. He was tiny and needed to be bottle fed as well.
All cats are doing well now and they get taken care of great. They get treats and toys all the time when we go shopping. They are spoiled and in my eye are perfect. Any one who has cats knows they are very special.

Keep up the good work my friend, you have a good heart and these kittys will love you forever maybe this is why they always find their way to your door.

Hey kitty42 I wanted to say I have gotten some cat food with vitamin e in it. Try finding some cat food like that in your area it may help. My cats coat started getting shiny and silky once I begin to feed her that. Hopefully this helps. The name of brand I have is purina cat chow with vitamin e. It'll say it on the bag.

I have 7 kitties right now, but I cant take in a stray. I already have four kids and my house is not big enough for any more animals. But I have a really hard time not taking in some little helpless kitty.

I can't afford to permanently keep any more animals but I'll never turn one in need away. I'll take him/her in and find them a forever home. I had a chance to take in a whole litter of 3wk old kittens that the lady couldn't take care of cause of allergies but someone else beat me to them. In a way, I'm glad they did cause after bottle-feeding them for a few weeks, I honestly don't think I would be able to give them up. The mother was nowhere to be found so I'm thinking something got her or she got killed by a car while hunting for food.

oh how cute!he looks like one of mine.
oh yea,i've taken in strays.
they go to the vet and get checkup/neutering before they're introduced to the flock.
i had an accidental FeLV breakout from an untested adoption years ago,i'll never make that mistake again.they go to the doc's first.

My kitty, Bean, was a stray. He came to us when we first moved into this house in May 2007. He was so skinny! Hubby fed him and that was that; he had a new home.
I took him to the vet's and had him looked over because he, too, had a gash but his was on his leg. I don't know how he got it but it was infected and looked awful! He was put on antibiotics and patched up. Once he healed, he got his shots. He had already been neutered so that wasn't an issue.
Now, he's the best kitty I've ever had. He's so sweet! He's also over doubled his weight and is a massive 16 pounds of total love. He loves to be brushed, which I do every night. Whenever he sees me brushing one of my dogs, he comes over and tells me how much he'd like to join in. He's an awfully verbal cat, too. He talks more than any other cat I've ever had.
My husband's cat, Bitsy (who I sometimes call something else... just change the 's' to an 'h'... his cat is one MEAN kitty!), looks so tiny next to my massive Bean. She's only about 5 pounds to his 16 but, of course, she rules the house. She laid the ground rules down early on. LOL
Enjoy your new kitty! He sounds like a wonderful addition to your crew.

Aww Bean is so cute! :)
Your rescue story sounds a little like mine that I mentioned here :) Luckily though, my cat didn't have a wound--I'm not sure she would have survived with one with the condition I found her in.
My cat was underweight when I found her too, she was probably ONE pound, if that...she's about 5 now, but that's a healthy weight for her body size.
I added a picture of her to my discussion below if you want to see her :)

Both of my cats were rescues. They are my best friends now. Cricket is just 6 months old now and will be spayed soon and Buffy is 7 years old now. He is a massive 23 pounds and could squash Cricket with a single blow, but he likes her and they get along great.

Aw he is so adorable. We have just recently taken in a stray kitten, we believe that may have been dropped off by its mother. She was a bit young and adorable. She was around like a month when we found her. Her fur was matted and she was very skinny poor thing. I felt so sorry for her because it was 100 degrees outside and she probably wouldn't have made it for long. Actually with her she just came right to us like she knew she was to belong to us. She allowed us to scoop her right up and bring her in. We fed her and gave her a bath as well had taken care of all of her needs. Now she is a happy kitten just being so playful and getting a good nap in now and then. Now she is looking a lot better, her long fur coat is silky and shiny also and she's totally friendly. We actually have two cats the other cat we had gotten from the animal shelter. She was too a stray before they had taken her in. She was only 7 days old and they believe that maybe someone had dropped her off or the mother had abandoned her as well. Well, when we had adopted her she was 2 mnths old and now she is 1 years old. She is totally awesome, she loves spending time with the family. She doesn't hop on your lap much, but she likes to curl up at your feet and get petted. She has grown so much since the last time when we adopted her. Lol, she looks a medium sized bob cat. I can't wait to see how big the baby grows up. The 1 year old her name is alexia and she is a shorthaired tabby cat and the now we believe she's either 2 1/2 mnth or 3 mnth old cat her name is kelly and we believe she is a persian cat because of her long hair andpossibly part tabby as well. But good for you that you took this cat in, he definitely needed a home. Wow you have 11 cats though. That's awesome that you are taking care of those. Us on the other hand wouldn't have enough room for that many or could even afford it at the moment. But we're like if we ever run across another stray kitten then we will just bring them by the animal shelter. Just because we live in a 1 bedroom apartment and we already have 2 it would be for the safety of the two cats we already have also. Alexia is now just getting used to kelly so. But I am always willing to help out a stray, even if I have to feed it every now and then.

Bless you for doing that. You just beat us by one cat.
My family and i don't turn them away as much as possible but we can only really afford to house 10 of them with limited space and budget. All were "dumped" and some kittens just wandered into our front gate and we couldn't turn them away.
If we stumble upon a few we cannot house, we feed them, take them in temporarily before bringing them to a shelter/ animal sanctuary.
We already have 3 dogs and 10 cats, all adoptees.

That is really great of you to rescue animals, and so many! Do you just have cats or other animals too? Either way it's great :) And his name fits him, Little Tux, it's cute! :D
In November of 2004 I found my cat...she was probably Literally 1 pound, and the vet guessed about 1 year old. Her hair was really sparatic--some ares were completely shaved, others had tuffs of hair. I could see every rib, her leg tendons, her spinal cord and shoulder, the skin was pulled so tight over her tiny body.
I brought her into my home, nursed her back to health, spent as much time possible with her...and today she is a BEAUTIFUL girl! :) Her coat is all fluffy white, she weighs 4 or 5 pounds (healthy for her size), and she is HAPPY! She is also the sweetest cat EVER. She loves me soooo much :P I'm her favorite in the family! :P
She was sweet when I found her...despite being on her own for a long time(based on her horrible condition) she did not try in any way to hurt me or escape when I picked her up. When I first went to her she did run, but she got herself cornered at the side of my house, she looked like she was going to try and jump the fence-but she physically couldnt, too weak. I know it isn't safe to appraoch any cornered animal, but she looked so terrible! :( So I went over to her, and picked her up...she was very still in my arms, very good. Drop her inside to my room (away from the dogs and other cats) fed her canned food at first...then gradually got her on dry food.
One of my favorite memories of my first days with her was when I woke up and her whole little body was stretched over my neck, she was sound asleep. :) She slept close to me a lot at first. Now, since she can be alone outside my room I don't always lock her in my room with me. But when she follows me up I will, and she always falls asleep against me in some way :) Sometimes she uses my arm as a pillow! Once, she was actually sleeping like me, right next to me--her head was on my pillow with me and her body was stretched out on the covers :D
She is a great cat!!!!! She's my love :)
