IPod help, please!  | |  So our hard drive, with all our music on it, crashed and can't be salvaged. I desperately want to be able to export all the music from my actual Ipod, onto our new hard drive, but I don't know how. My dad found a site that offered this service, but it only lets you import the first 100 tracks for free and then you have to pay.
Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know how to fix it?
I love my music so much and I'm terrified at the thought of losing it all!

| | | 2. o0Tora0o (261) | 3 months ago | You need to be very careful when you're connecting your iPod to your computer now that it's got a new hard drive. iPods are designed to only sync with one iTunes library at a time, so every time you plug your iPod into a new computer it will attempt to reformat it, causing you to lose all of your files.
I usually use Download.com when I'm trying to find free software to do a certain task for me. I did a quick search and came up with a free program called iCanExport for Windows. It should allow you to export your entire music library to your computer, but I've never tried it myself so I don't know how well it works. It's available at http://download.cnet.com/... is another one called iDump that may help you, too. It's located at http://download.cnet.com/... luck with getting your music library off of your iPod. If you use either of those programs, please let me know how well it works for you. I'd also recommend taking the time to enable your iPod for disk usage, which will allow computers to recognize it as a USB storage drive. Then you can just use it like any other external storage device and drag and drop your files from it to your computer. | |

If you click on the reply link, you can see the full text of the links without all the extra stuff that MyLot has added to them. I really do have to agree about backing files up. I lost some pretty important files when my hard drive crashed earlier this year (like my tax return--I'd just finished entering my information and was on my way to submit it when the drive went). I used to use CD's and DVD's, but now I've got an external hard drive. It was fairly inexpensive and makes backing files up quite easy. And having multiple backups never hurts--you never know when computers are going to decide to be a complete pain in the neck.

I really recommend being a backup maniac when it comes to computer files. Put music/pictures on CDs, DVDs. Then put them on another set of CDs, DVDs just in case. Also use USB thumb drives and an external harddrive. But always keep in mind the golden technological rule: if it can fail, it will (especially when you are at your lowest).
In terms of programs here's Pod to PC which is a free program and might be what you are looking for Phae.
