"Tool Academy"--a help or a hindrance to relationships?

I got to thinking about this while viewing an episode of it last night, and it occurred to me that these girls really could have picked a better way of working things out with their boyfriends. Bringing them onto the national spotlight via "Tool Academy" could very well have sparked even more resentment, which doesn't exactly help the situation. What are your thoughts on this?
