When traveling by plane in US........................... |
| |
| What things should I beware of? I mean when I pack for a US trip what things can I pack and what things can't i? Do I really have to have containers of perfumes and shampoos and lotions that are no more than two ounces? I am planning on just taking like a sport or gym bag size for my clothing and my laptop and the carrying case. Also my purse. That is it. The gym bag will have my clothes which is casual t-shirts and jeans and undies, bathroom articles and toiletries. But I am concerned about prescriptions. Should they only be in the RX bottle or? And, what about make-ups, lotions, and shampoos and conditioners? Do they all have to be in TWO OUNCE containers. I use expensive stuff and it seems ludicrous to me to only be able to take such a small amount. I am not in a situation where i can send them ahead or anything either. What do I do? Does it take a long time for you to go through the line to have all this checked? And, do I have to check in with my ticket ahead of time. What is all that about? I have not flown for probably 25-30 years. Yes, REALLY! So I am totally in the dark. I want very much to be prepared. What traspires? What do they expect from you so I don't have to be in the process all day? HELP! I am a bit nervous about it because it has been so long and I want to be sure I am prepared and have my things prepared correctly so I won't be a problem to them and they won't be a problem to me and my experience after so long. Your help is much appreciated. | | | | | |

| | hells bells eagle I am not sure but i though it was 4 oz bottles. When I worked at the beauty supply place I knew but I have been away from there for about a year. If you have a Sallys Beauty Supply near you call them and ask them, they will know. I have not flown in a very long time either as I hate to travel. They even sell the small bottles there that you can fill at home and take with you. Have a good trip. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks. I think you are right. Two ounces seems just silly. | | | |

| | You should not rely on getting this information second-hand. It is too important. Visit the Transportation Security Administration website, http://www.tsa.gov for all of the rules regarding carry-on luggage, etc. There is the 3-1-1 rule. One one-quart clear plastic bag filled with bottles of liquid no larger than 3.4 ounces each. You will be surprised at what you can get in that bag. You can purchase travel kits at the drugstore for putting your expensive creams in. You can even get purse size bottles of perfume. Bear in mind that lipstick is a gel, therefore it goes in the plastic bag. Wear shoes that you can slip on and off easily. Keep your jewelry to a minimum since metal sets off the buzzers. Be sure your laptop can power on. Sometimes they want you to turn it on to see if it really is a computer. I don't think you have to do anything special with your meds unless you have liquids. I did not want there to be any doubt so I placed my meds in a 2nd quart plastic bag and put it in plain view for the inspectors to see also. Make sure everything is properly labeled. A funny thing, on my trip to India, I cleared the airports in the US, but when I flew inside of India, they did not like a tool I had for pushing the cuticles back on my nails. They thought it was too sharp to carry on the plane so they kept it. We had a good laugh over that. Enjoy your trip. | | | | | | |

| | I have seen this site you mentioned before and spaced it. Your quip about the nail tool was cute. So typical. Thank you for your information. | | | |

| | Hey celticeagle! Last time I flew I had a few issues with makeup/lotions. If you pack them in the bag you check..it's no big deal. But if you carry on..then it has to be in clear plastic bottles..the 2 ounce ones. Oh..and they need to be put in a plastic zip lock bag too. They had a garbage can there full of makeup and lotions that they made people throw away before boarding. If I were you, I'd just put my stuff in the checked bag so you don't have to worry about it. Dress comfey too. Shoes that are easy to take off. They made us take our shoes off and send them through the x-ray machine too. I'd suggest getting there about an hour and a half before time to board. It can take a while if there are a lot of people. | | | | | | |

| | I would go with two ouncers to be on the safe side. It may be 4 but I would hate to chance it. There may be some more info on the airport's website too. | | | |

| | wow! you seem almost as freaked out about this as I was...well I just got back from the states and I was not allowed to carry more than 100ml of liquid in my hand luggage...that included my liquid foundation and a small bottle of perfume...i loaded up the rest of the liquids and sent them with my other luggage so that they be stored in the cargo compartment...you are also not allowed to carry any meat products...only sea food is allowed...and also not many spices...esp not coriander leaves...the remaining restrictions apply of course..hope ur not planing on carrying any knives or guns along with u... :P | | | | | | |

| | Thank you for that bit of valuable information. My daughter has one of those lighter shaped like a gun. Perhaps I should take it along just for the fun of it. Na, don't want to take the extra time on it. Mean of me , huh? | | | |

| | I sugjest all your liquids go in your bag you are checking at the airport not in a carry on bag. I ended up having to throw away all my shampoo and that sort of stuff. Thought i was being smart , not wanting it to accidentally open up in my check bag and get all over my clothes. So next time I travel i will seal my liquids in ziplock type bags in my checked bag. | | | | | | |
