Hi there my friend. I am glad that you enjoyed your trip to Chennai. You had a smooth trip by train and then local bus. Earlier this year I traveled to the airport by three different trains and a bus. Then I flew from London to Cape Town. Happy traveling.

Yes, the auto people here charge much, if you are new to Chennai, thats it they will earn the whole day's money through one person itself and that too, if you had to go to hotel Le Royal Meridian, he would think that you are very rich (since you were going to be staying in that hotel), he must have asked more, its good that you took a bus, just a few steps from the busstop, you haev the hotel...hope you a good time here

hi sharay, thanks for the quick response,10 years back, regularly i am going to Chennai, about the autos why the govt. will not take any necessary steps to curtail this type of looting by auto walas,i have not found this either at Bangalore or Hyderabad, there they are collecting according to the meter, why do not you put this matter to local news papers? have a nice day

yeah...but i think if you get down from the train in Egmore oir Central station, there you have government fixed tariff rates for all the autos depending ont he distances you travel, next time, you can take an auto from there if you plan to come by train to chennai

The problem is most of the Auto wallas in Chennai take the Auto's on Hire basis which is being owned by the Local MLA or MP. Hence whenever the Police intervenes the autowalas use these politicians name and because of that the Police too are negligent on this issue many times. While coming to Chennai, you must have noticed a Pre-Paid Auto Stand being closed. Its due to the politics played by these Auto walas that the system is being close so that the individuals could extract exhorbidant amount. Nowadays, the MTC(LOCAL) buses cover almost every part in the city of Chennai from Central and hence its advisable to contact the Bus Depot officer\time keeper seated in the Bus bay located in front of the station. Have a great day and thanks for posting this discussion. Cheers:-)
