Correction of English Grammar

Do those among you have a high fluency in english, do you make an effort to correct the grammar of your foreigner chatmates (whose english comes tertiary only)? Or do you just let it be? And to international chatmates whose english language comes tertiary only, do you appreciate it if your grammar is corrected or do you feel it as a let down?

I don't mind correcting grammar or spelling of my fellow chatmate, while others are thankful if you correct them, some misundertood it. So to avoid any misunderstanding I just don't unless someone ask me to do so, besides I'm not really sure if my grammar are correct sometimes, since I rarely take an effort to correct them, it will be a waste of time cause others also don't really care as long as they understand you.

In most instances, i would put smileys on my correction to avoid misunderstandings. there are so many opportunities here in mylot wherein you can help the others in grammar and i believe that they would be oh so much glad to have it corrected as the english language is a universal tool for communication. I remember i have an indian chatmate who asked me to write a "thank you letter" to his employer who awarded him as the "Employee of the Month." i was so glad to help him and his boss really appreciated the letter.

To be honest, unless I am working in a Call-center or an English speaking environment, i prefer to talk to them in their own manner on how they speak English. why would some one correct me if we don't really talk about correcting other people's English, that would be insulting for me. well, unless it's simple English but for complicated ones i will just say the right word, or not

at the end of the day, it would depend on how the recipient would ponder on your correction. they would either see it is as insulting or constructive. i guess you just have to be sensitive on the talker.

i accept the way my friends are. But this doesnt mean that i wouldnt care with the way they speak or write. I know my foreigner friends are dying to have someone to patiently look out for them and i also know that they are trying to be better english speaking people. English is anyway, a major tool in communication right now. I am not saying that i am the best but at least i know and i have something to share.

Actually I don't correct the grammar of my foreign chatmates as long as I can understand what they are saying.. I feel if I correct their grammar too often they might feel embarrassed or might be hurt... But if they ask me to help with their English then I would definitely help them with their language.. Because we cannot say how they would react if I correct their mistakes too often without their consent...

Sometimes I think the grammatical mistakes weren't intentional. Maybe it was a typing error or maybe the person is typing too fast and was so excited about getting it out without previewing it. So minor grammatical errors need not be corrected as long as they can be understood but some people are not grammatically incorrect. They just can't express themselves well as to be understood. How to correct that?

oh yah! i observe that many times here in mylot. Their views are understandable so i really dont mind the grammar. However, there really are respondents here that need guidance because they cant seem to put in the proper words. They come up with words that would make your brain go round and whirly like a roller coaster. Should that happen, i would personally tap her for a "friend request" here in mylot. and i will drop in private messages to her and offer help in writing what she has in mind. These people are potential writers. They just have so much in mind that they couldnt put the proper words to say it. I would like to believe that there are mylot users who would so much like to respond but finds it a bit awkward to reply. What do you think? I had been helping my indian and pakistani chatmates on grammar, why shouldnt i offer the same help that i do to my foreigner friends here?

if it is corrected then i thank you, but if i am humiliated then of course that will hurt and make me feel bad. there are a lot of good way to correct a person's grammar. i am not good in grammar but i know they can understand what i wanted to say. sometimes people laugh at what i said because of typo and of grammar but i would like to say that english is not my first language for me that can express myself with another language not just my first language is something for me. its an additional feather on my hat

i let them be. as long as i can understand what he is driving at, i let it pass. i don't want to hurt his feelings by correcting his grammar.
