Last weekend, I bought a luggage bag of the brand American Touristerfor Rs. 5700/-. I went for shopping with my friend and she said that it is a very good deal and the brand American Tourister is one of the top bag brands of the world next to Samsonite. But, I saw the same type of bag for Rs. 2700/- in another shop. So, I am confused and I don't know whether I have taken a correct decision.
The only good thing about American Tourister is that I got '3 years of global warranty' which the cheap bag company won't provide.
How do you identify a branded item?
Does expensive mean branded?
Do you think an item is branded when you it's on TV?

For me the term 'branded' means the name. I hope that things of a good brand will last for a long time and it is worth paying extra for it. I buy branded items in that belief. Do you know about the brand 'American Tourister'? Regarding luggage bag, it is not soemthing we use often. We use it only when we go for a trip. So, I don't think it is worth paying double the rate of a normal bag for a branded one.

The word 'Branded' means the brand or the designer of the brand is well known and the quality of all the products are somehow better then those normal average ones. Yes, you might see something similar or maybe identical to those of the branded ones but they're cheaper, well, its all about the brand only and you're just paying the extra money for the name, the brand name! For example, 2 identical dresses, one from Gucci selling at $2,500 and another one from... say GAB selling at $99.00, well, you're paying the extra $2,401 for the dress by Gucci for the brand name, Gucci, not really for the dress.

There are times I take note of the brand name. I think it is somewhat important in electrical items and I am happy to pay extra for a reputable brand I know I can trust.
As far as luggage is concerned, as long as the quality is reasonably good, I don't buy expensive brands. I don't want a handle pulling off. I want good wheels. I want strong zips and strong material. I bought my case at a chain store and it has lasted well over many flights and holidays. In fact it still looks like new.
I think it always pays to shop around before buying. Compare quality and price before making the decision.
