Posting Photos????

Im alittle confused about how the posting photos gets your earnings raised. I have posted one photo to one of my interest catagories, like a little icon that can be used for that catagory. But i have heard that posting photos to your profile dont count to be able to get earnings from those types of photos. Is there somewhere to post photos for earnings that im not seeing? I also tried to comment on someone photo once and it wouldnt let me. Thanks for any tips you can give me
