Good parts of a soap are always when it is about to end

This is the exact reason why I don't want not that I don't like but I don't want to watch soap operas. You'll get addicted because the ending will usually leave you in suspense and you have to know what will happen next but you have to watch the next episode. Sometimes you're not free to watch the next episode and because you want to know what happen next you'd rearrange your schedule so that you're able to watch the episode. This to me is like letting a television program control your life. My mom is addicted to soap operas so when I want to ask her out or anything she'd not go if it means she has to miss an episode of the soap she's watching.

Ahh, yes, the cliffhanger. This is a technique used by many programs, not just serial programs like soap operas, to peak your interest at the very end of the program to get you to some back on the next showing to find out "what happens next...". The thing that annoys me in this department as far as soaps go though, is that many times they don't continue that particular story on the next showing so you are still left hanging. Well, that's the nature of the beast, I guess.

That is the standard for most serial type shows and even books and has been for a very long time. The prime time shows often use it, especially in the last episode of the season. This turns out to be really bad if the show is not renewed for the next season which has happened far too many times and then one never learns the intended resolution of clifhanger.

Hi Jugs...I know what you mean. That's how they get you to come back day after day to watch. If you always knew what was going on then there would be no sense in watching it every day and they would loose their ratings.

My sister lives in a different time zone from me and gets the soaps at an earlier time then I do so if I don't have time to wait or don't want to wait to find out what is going on I just call her. She gets soap net or something like that on her satellite.

They do that to make you come back the next day to find out what happened. That is just like the cliffhangers on TV season finales. They keep you in suspense for months so you can come back in the Fall to find out what happened to the characters on the show. This has been going on forever and it will continue I'm sure forever.
