do smokers deserve a choice |
|
do you think it is fair for the government to just keep banning everywhere that smokers can and can not smoke....i understand banning in vehichles with children under the age of 19 but with the amount of banning that the government is doing with the smoking, you would think it was illegal do even smoke at all....my opinion is that if the government thinks its sooo bad to smoke than ban buying them all together....make it illegal just like drugs. if not then allow smokers to have areas where they can smoke.....without having to be huddled up outside and trying to stay 15feet away from entrances....i think the government's common sense flew out the door long ago when it comes to smoking.

I'm tired of having to choke with other people's smoke and yes, even in open grounds, because people just seem to love to congregate at buildings doors and whatnot and make almost such a smoke curtain that it doesn't get cleared away by the wind fast enough.

I do not think that the gov. should tell buss. owners if they can or can't have smoking in their building, UNLESS children are involved. Places like bars and restaurants should be up to the owners. I am not a smoker, in fact I strongly dislike smoking; but I do not think that it's right when and if the gov. tries to "take over". I live a little less than an hour from the Historical Deadwood, and even there, there are a couple casino's that have changed to some poker rooms to non-smoking and leaving some as they were, smoking. Granted, I would like to go to some of my favorite bars and not have to deal with the smoke. But I understand that's what I will have to deal with it if I go out. If I don't want to deal with smoke, then I'll go to a Non-smoking bar. It's that simple, either way there will always be someone who isn't happy with the out come.

It is a health hazard, my Grandmother smoked for 50 years, (even when she was pregnant!) and we couldn't bear to be around her,or in her apartment because of the stink! It is really easy to treat nowadays. There are hypnosis programs, like Steve G. Jones, or patches, you'll have more friends and your family will welcome you back from behind the smoke curtain. There is a bakery in my neighborood where the baker smokes, So there are no customers there! Do you want nicotine in your cookies little boy?

rachael5760 (435) | 4 months ago | Smoke from cigarettes is harmful to everyone, the bystander and the smoker. The only one who gets any benefit is the tobacco companies.

3. amyson (766) | 4 months ago | well i think if you are familiar with the city in Davao, there is a laws smoking is prohibited in that place.and there are other places have non-smoking area or other establishment have specific for smoking.the government still cannot regulate it because it has bigger taxes.but if you buy a pack cigarettes who will see on the warning sign on the side.that cigarettes is very dangerous to health.

4. lotterylover (4818) | 4 months ago | Drinking should be banned if smoking is because drunk drivers kill a lot of people. I don't know which one kills the most. On the "Biggest Loser" a woman told how all her family was killed by a drunk driver.

lotterylover (4818) | 4 months ago | The same thing would probably happen if they band smoking. I don't really think they should prohibit smoking in parks. A person can always move if they don't like what they are breathing.

5. rachael5760 (435) | 4 months ago | I almost married the perfect man of my dreams . . . but to him cigarettes were and still are more important than a family. I met him again after 16 years and he is still not married and doesn't have children. Recently at age 50 he had a minor stroke! I told him 16 years ago that I would marry him, but not the stink. He met my children and fell in love with them (all 5 ofthem), and I told him that the children could have been his. People need to get above and get past the scam of the tobacco companies and live healthier lives.

7. jodylee_04530 (509) | 4 months ago | I am a smoker and I don't think the government should dictate where I can and can't do it. I enjoy smoking and always have (15 years now) I know it is not healthy and I never smoke around children. I just wish there was somewhere I could go and not feel like a leper. I enjoy having a cigarette when I drink and certainly don't mind stepping outside so others don't have to but at least give me a table to sit at:)
I think the government has taken away most of our rights, or at least regulated them to some degree. It is frustrating as a US citizen in the land of the free to feel so unfree. I know others are much worse off then here but the government needs to step back from certain area and really allow us our freedoms.

| donie11 (26) | 4 months ago | amen to that.....i live in canada and the government is going crazy with the whole law around smoking....first they made non-smoking and smoking areas and made business's put out there own money to get a seperate air system to pump out the smoke....so they did it and then the government turns aroung a year later and says no more smoking areas......so all that money that the business's had to put out for that seperate air systems was a big waste of money. i agree totally. just because your a smoker doesnt make you a bad person....i dont smoke around my kids either...my house and car are completly smoke free i wont smoke around a non smoker. i dont mind going 15feet from a doorway while smoking but your right we could atleast have a table or something to sit at.

| 9. mckeekitty (22) | 4 months ago | I'm ashamed to admit I'm a smoker. I would like to say I "choose" to smoke, but truth is I'm addicted and wish I never picked up the habit.
I respect the regulations that keep second-hand smoke away from others. To be honest, even as a heavy smoker myself, I don't like smoke-filled rooms! Back in the day when you could opt for a smoking or non-smoking section at a restaurant, I opted for non-smoking. I didn't want to eat around smoke, and preferred taking a break and stepping outside for a few puffs. Strange, I know.

rachael5760 (435) | 4 months ago | Well, if you want to quit there are ways to do this. One is to get the nicotine patches, and the other is Self Hynosis. Go to google and put in stop smoking hynosis and you will get a lots of sites that can help you kick the habit. You'll save lots of money that you now spend on cigarettes.

10. ladym33 (5478) | 4 months ago | I think they have gone a little too extreme too, but I am glad smoking is no longer allowed in restaurants. Even in restaurants that had smoking sections the smoke would still come over to where we were eating and it would totally ruin my dinner and make me sick. When I worked at a restaurant where they had smoking in the bar area by the time I would get off at night I could hardly talk. I think however if you go to a bar you should be able to smoke at least out in the beer garden.
