I'm sure many filipinos will agree with me that we don't prioritize our products? Is that right Filipinos? Tell me I'm wrong. If I am going to calculate, out of 100%, maybe only 10 - 15 percent filipinos prefer to use our own products than international products. I admit to myself, that most of the things that I have was bought abroad.I know this will not help the economy of the country. But from time to time, i am trying my best to adjust and prioritize our own products. What about you? Do you prioritize your own product or you still prefer international products??

hello, it depends. when ever my relatives from states would visit us here in the Philippines, we would have a lot of Balik-Bayan boxes that actually poured with US products, such as soap,lotion,flash-light,food,ramen,hose for gardening and other stuff.

Same here. whenever my cousin go home from London, there are lots of balikbayan boxes. Filipinos are known for that especially for the OFW people. Merchants should make quality products, if not people from this country, will prioritize buying the products of other countries.

you are right, most filipinos love to use imported items and very much proud of having them. but i do love using our own products especially foods, i love filipino foods, either native, desserts or viands. i also admit that i love imported goods like perfume, because i really like the smell of perfume from other country especially the one that i am using now.

I would agree with you the filipino foods is really great especially in terms of "kakanin". I just don't know why filipinos still adapt other delicacies of other countries. In terms of perfume, i seldom buy imported perfume because it is really expensive. I still prefer our own perfume. thanks for sharing

my perfume was just given to me by my husband, so it's free...you are right, prices of imported items are so high, i just wonder why lots of filipinos like them, maybe because of the brand.

Well, here in India foreign products, specially western products are for show of status, rather than for ease of use. Though most of us here prefer to buy our own products as then the services are cheap and easily available, also they are cheaper when compared to foreign products.
We have a good industry setup but there are some companies that don't give value for money products, so I myself try to make sure to steer away from them. Though I love to use products from our own industries here, but I do prefer to use products that are better and are easy to use with a greater life and has value for money.
Take Care

As much as possible... i try to prioritize my country's own products... because Asia has become the dumping ground for products that are banned or will be banned in the US and Europe... and even chinese products scare me because of the melamine issue last year...
Not because a product is made abroad... that doesn't mean its perfect... just wish more and more Filipino products will be made so that we don't need to depend on imports...

Good to hear that you prioritize our own product, very few filipinos practice that habit. Especially elite people here in our place, they want the things they are wearing, the food that they are eating, should be imported. If they will continue doing this case, there is a big possibility that our economy will continue to fall because of this.

Yes, I do patronize our own products. I know that when I do I am helping the country and the businesses that give jobs to our kababayans and the economy in the end. But admit it also that there are a lot of items that are not being produced in the country like toys, gadgets, even food. This gives us no choice but to buy those that are made by other countries.

We filipinos are not that skilled enough or equipped enough in making some quality products that is why most filipinos especially the elite people, they prefer buying the imported items. Merchants should be aware of this. This is for our own security and the security of our economy as well.

Hey rberon, easy. I think that's a bit categorical. There are Philippine products that we can be proud of. And given the proper training, I guess we have the ability to equal if not surpass what the other nationalities can produce. And if only there enough funds to be allocated for trade in industry. Well, I'm not losing hope. I still believe in the Filipino ingenuity. Peace!

Hi rberon,
Prioritze our own product or international products? It is hard for to answered. In my opinion, i priorize brand products, not choose products just according to the product origin. Brand products are often means good quality.
I do buy some international products. In fact, most products i bought make in China, our country. In the one hand, now most products made in China have good quality. In the other hand, if i buy one more product made in China, i would do one more contribution to China development.
Happy mylotting!

i do buy local products though not prioritize them. but usually now i buy local brands just only because that is what i can afford to buy but for sure if i have the money i will buy the imported products. but lately i think most of the product i buy are locally made. like shirts, shoes, and etc. anyways, there are good local products like the brand of shirt and jeans, i may go to bench, if i want to buy shoes , i do buy only local brands now cause they are cheaper, and i learned actually to appreciate now the local products. the best thing is i am helping already my people to earn and it can create more jobs locally and also i save a lot of money. i am happy how much money i save now and also the quality are not that bad. before when i have the money i just buy expensive jeans like NO FEAR and LEVI's. quite expensive actually. but i can not remember usually the name of those local brands as they aer not that popular though i often wear them i dno't bother to read the brand name as long as the quality is good enough then i have no problem with it.
sometimes i don't understand the thinking of people why they say the original is better than the imitation or even the brand new local products. and i will see some people will buy the imported products like Nike even if it is only second hand in thrift store or ukay- ukay. but i prefer brand new though it is not branded but it looks presentable when it is new that those second hand that looks old though it is original or expensive brand and that looks like worn out already.

well i do not patronize all of our products but i do love our foods... and i am even good at cooking some of it as well.
i am not into Filipino products because someitmes of the low quality. they could easily be tear or the quality of the things done by those products are not really durable. that is why i always ended up not patronizing our things.
but our food is way to different. and i lvoe it all. the delicacies. kakanins. those foods for "pasalubongs" or gifts...

Yeah, we are known for delicacies. All of our kakanins are perfect, i also love it just like you.Maybe, just a simple tip for those people who are making filipino products, they should always look into the quality of the the products before disposing it to the public to avoid problem. Filipinos won't look at imported products if they are satisfied in our own products.

I don't have a priority regarding purchase of products. If the product i wish to purchase is good and within my price range i'll buy it irrespective of the fact it is local or imported.I prefer branded products and if the brand is good and within the price range i want to pay i buy it without thinking whether the product is Indian or International.Quality is the only priority i look in before purchasing a product.

I personally prioritize our products but I have to check the quality first. I buy slippers and sandals locally(Liliw, Laguna).:)
