We all know that looking for a job is really hard lately. Let say you browse around job advertisements and most of it you don't have any experience or expertise for that job, do you still at least try to apply?
I know I did that couple times. My first job actually required the fluence of English speaking, and that time it's only my second year learning English, but I applied anyway, thinking "how hard it's gonna be?" LOL, my parents thought that I'm crazy enough.
This is just my opinion, if nobody give you chance and you not even have the guts to try how am I going to get this "experience"...Worst case scenarion they will fire me in my probation time.

I think I will take any chance to apply a job. Even I have no experience on it, but if I think I can do it I will apply. However the employers don’t think so. They focus on your experience and if you have no relevant experience they would think you are not qualified. It’s very frustrating to me. We all know some jobs need basic ability, experience is not so essential. Even we are new in the filed we can get the experience they need very quickly. One day if I became an employer I will not request any experience. I will focus people themselves.

some jobs if it's not required like technical expertise, we can just learn it quick.
I think that's what I told them in the interview, I told them honestly that I never done it beore, but I'm willing to learn and learn it quickly, and challenge them to give me a try.

You seem to speak fairly good English to me. Yes, I still try-I landed my first real job that way...I worked in a medical records office-I caught on super fast! I think you can do anything you put your mind to :)

Yes, I have, and I have been hired for a few. I had applied as a loan associate, helping people get cahs advances, and I had no office type job experience or contrat type of experience either. But I worked there for 6 months until laid off because I was hired on only as a temp anyway. I had applied for a teaching position at a charter school last year-one that paid $25 an hour to teach various elective courses. I had only earned about 1/3 of the college courses that the standard school systems would require. I got hired, but never did actually go to work for them due to medical illness. (Bummer, huh?) Aiming high is not a bad thing. It can give you the drive to excel and do your best.

I always apply unless it specifically asks for a certain amount of experience that I don't have. Im fresh out of college and have been applying for many fields that I have no work experience in.

I really don't think that it's a good idea to do this, not in my case anyhow! I'm trying to get into the IT industry and I would say that all the IT jobs that I have had a look at, they all require experience. So, I'm thinking to myself, how do I get around this obsticle? Well, the only option open to me is to try and find some kind of voluntary work whereby I can utilise the skills I have gained through study and then I will start to accumulate experience and then I can start applying for those jobs that require you to be experienced. It's just so difficult at the moment as there are so many people applying for the same job. I agree with you though, if you don't try you won't know the outcome good or bad! I like to challenge myself a little now. Andrew

I won't pursue something that really need technical expertise like that. But you can always get around some administration job, specially if you do know reading, and basic computer use. LOL. Even right now, I end up in retail world, but there's always a way to get around and learning the management, and pursue higher position.

It is extremely tough out there in the job market right now. I don't blame you for trying to apply for a job where your skills did not match exactly what they were looking for. If I was in your shoes I would do the same thing. You have got to keep trying, especially with the way that things are at the moment.

Hello ibuemma.
Well i think i will still go for the job, even if i dont have any experience about that job, because we are given training about every job before we start working on it.
And till i dont give it a try how i am suppose to get experience about certain things?
If we keep trying new things we will get experience on them soon and no work remains new though.

I did a couple of times. I was jobless at that time. I was desperate for any job. Just any job will do. I don't mind the low salary. At least I did check the job scope. And I definitely had no experience (or no clue at all) about the job.
Once I did applied for a Manager for a plantation. I had no clue about the job but I still pushed my luck. Then the interviewer asked me, "What fertilizer should I use to make the plant grow healthier?" I only managed to smile and said any type will do. I didn't heard from them so I guess I failed the interview. Figured~~~
But I did get lucky. My current job is as a substitute teacher. I never teach, not even for tuition. Still, I managed to pass the interview and already work for two years now. The point is, you don't know what in store for you. So just try pushing your luck. You might be surprised.

Sometimes, when you really are in need of a job, you would try everything that you think can consider your qualifications. Though you will also bump into some which would interest you even if you know you have a very little chance on it and you would think of applying for it and spend the rest of your day praying that they would actually hire you and face the next problem of how you are suppose to do the job you have a little technical knowledge. The important thing is that you are willing to learn about it.

Hi ibuemma. I do remember before that I dared apply for a job that I never had any experience at all. When asked if I were willing to accept it at a lower pay, I did. I was willing then to learn how the job goes. I wanted to explore and get some experience about the job that I was interested in. I felt that it was the only thing that I would learn. I was willing then to bargain my salary for the sake of experience.

hi ibuemma,
that's the sad part of applying for a job where you don't have any experience being terminated or not make you regualr staff.
but let's deal with the positive side of it: if one has no experience yet about the job, the company offers trainings and make the most of that training, exert effort to learn fast and acquire all the necessary information, skills and expertise the work calls for. you may not have any exeprience about the job but if you are interested in doing it and you have the passion to do it and if given the right supervision and exposure--------TRUST ME YOU CAN DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THAT FIELD. i am saying this because this is a personal experience and with CONVICTION... I AM SUCCESSFUL NOW IN MY FIELD.

hi, you are couragous person, for you have no experience but apply for that job. well most people would do the same i think, at least i do. it's hard to get a job now, and i would give every chance to myself. the first i should do is not afraid of the job that i have no experience. if you give no chance to yourself, so others would neither give you a chance.

I have taken several part time before.I worked as a promoter in the shop but i have no experience in it,and i do get fire under two weeks. Then i go for another job where the i can work in the field that i am familiar with. Finally i stick to the job for a long time until i need to continue my study,so i quit. So,i think experience is very important when finding a job,no employer will want to employ anyone that can't bring profit to the company. They will only accept that person as trainee for a short period of time.

Yes friend, obviously i will apply for those jobs that i don't have the experience on it, but if i don't apply for the than i don't get experience of applying for a job or facing an interviw and if i don't get the job than i don't get the experience of to do the job, people get experience by doing some thing and todo something we have to try for it, if we hesitate to apply for the job that i don't have the experince, then how will we get the experience.

I have done that and I am still doing that now, being that I am looking for a job. I have worked a job that required experience in waitressing and I did not have that experience, but the hiring manager decided to give me a chance and well that job didn't go as well. But he gave me a chance because I had previous experience in customer service. I do agree with you though that sometimes it is good that the hiring managers give you a chance, because they never know you may be good at the work that they are asking for. Before my first job was working at a grocery store and I told that once to a hiring manager, because they were like why should we hire you when you don't have any experience. I was like look I am looking for a job, and this is my first job. I've never worked before and I would like to have some work experience, but how can I gain work experience when no one will ever hire me. Well that same day I was hired. I think anyone can do this with with a job that they have no experience in and you just may get the job. So I think people although they may not have the experience go ahead and give it a try and see if you get the job.

Yes, I will still apply for a job even if I don't meet all the requirements needed in fulfilling the job. Unless, the job requires a specific category of skilled or unskilled worker or something. For example, they need an electrical engineer and I am a plumber. I think this is really unrealistic and an exercise in futility. I will not even try. I only apply for jobs where at least I meet the minimum requirements and where I could maybe negotiate or the potential employer might waive certain requisites like I have 3 yrs experince and they need at least 4 and such. In this case, I might get lucky by being persistent.

I remember applying also for a job that is not my expertise. But for me as long as you know a little something about, its okay to apply. Most of the things you will learn on the actual world. Its not all terminological. Just be willing to learn and be interested, you will cope up. If the employer asked you, just be honest to say that you know a little but you are a fast learner. You do accept challenges. Things are learned to constant practice. Be confident and true to your word. You would not know and learn unless you try.

Well, one would think that trying to get a job you already know you don't have qualifications for is a waste of your time, Because there is always someone else out there who is. Then again, sometimes when you apply for a job..even though you may not fit that position, they may know of something else you could do and that you are qualified for and they do have a place for you after all somewhere in the company.
