How do you deal with depression? email this discussion to a friend?

I'm slightly depressed right now, and it is one of the more unpleasant emotions I know. I consider myself lucky, it 'happens' to me only occasionaly, I try to get to the root cause of it, try to think it out, and, if possible, change my focus.

Depression is as such a good emotion, since it means a change is about to happen, it basically signals the onset of another 'bout' of personal growth LOL.

See, I'm trying humor right now, because even though it's true, that realization is not very helpful when you are 'in it'.

Most of the times I just try 'to stick it out', because it DOES end at some point in time.

I just feel for those people who suffer from it on a regular basis, or people who are clinically depressed really have all my sympathy. It's not the case with me, thank God.
So what are your remedies. I´m sure all of you suffer, at least sometimes, from it. What do you do? Exercise? Read a book? Please share.

Well booze and pills used to mask the symptoms for me, but can't afford those luxuries any more so I'm learning to retool my attitude! LOL! It's working pretty good lately, although I have valid reasons for my own pity parties, I'm still staying strong for my family as well as myself! After an attitude adjustment I feel pretty good!wink tdemex

if I feel depressed because some of problems, i take a deep breath, close my eyes and thinking all about my problems. I have to deal with problems that make me depressed, I do not want to run away from problems, because run away from problems it will get worse. If i can fix my problems, i can relaxed and my depressed is over

I think we all get depressed sometimes, And whenever I am, I usually start my day by taking a long walk and smell the morning breeze, and then go back home and get depressed again.LOL! just kidding, I spend my time playing with my kids, watching a funny movie with my kids. Eat what i want! yes! this might be not very healthy but I'm not always depressed so I just eat what I want and then walk my dog to lose a bit of those pounds.

Peanut butter. Don't laugh. Whenever I'm a little depressed, I crave peanut butter. Whether it's with crackers, in a sandwich, or some other way it doesn't matter. A little while after I have some, my depression seems to lift. Whatever thoughts I was having that were unsurmountable while I was feeling bad, become easier to deal with or solve.

I don't think it's uncommon for our bodies to crave something when we're depressed. An event occurs (or we believe it has) and our bodies react. From the reaction, our internal chemical balace changes a bit, which in turn causes the depressed feeling. Cravings are one way your body tells you that you need something, right? For me it's peanut butter, for others it may be something else.
I hope that you're feeling better, but have you had any cravings for anything?

Well,the key to remove any thoughts of depression as it comes, is it to change your focus.When you are upset or depressed, go outside, go for a stroll, if you have a friend or acquaintance talk to him/her, else listen to songs.Or engage in your favourite activities.Never sit idle and help that devil to feed more depressing worms to your brain.
Even better suggestion is enter or explore new things taht you never done before.Soon the thoughts that depress you will lose its power to put you in their control.And on a later stage, you would find a better way to close it.
So just never be alone with your thoughts .MOve out in this great world.There are people who love to see in better and prosperous times, and now you could add me to that list happy.Cheers to you!Have a Great time!
