Yes in my opinion there is still a lot of racism in America today although we have come a long way we still have a ways to go.
This subject is so vast that one can type a whole novel giving their opinions and comments on this subject so I will try to make mine as short as possible. But I don't think thats gonna happen LOL
No a lot of America wasn't ready for a black President and still aren't and yes a lot of people were ready for change but not a black President to change things, some where ready for both so it varies to me in whether or not America was ready for President Ohama.
But ready or not here he is and boy does he have a lot to fix! But thats another topic altogether
Now that the newness has worn off of him becoming presidents maybe now more pressing issues that really need his attention can be dealt with because black white, yellow brown, the problems are the same no matter what color the person is who is at the helm.
The news about Mississippi is not surprising nor would it be a surprise for me in any of our states their is racism all over the USA in the north, south,
east and west
And its not just against blacks, its against people of color period be they mexican, oriental,indian,ect.. Its also a two way street you do have people here in the USA who don't like whites so they are racist as well so there is also racism against whites its just not as well known .That doesn't mean it doesn't exist .
But not everyone is like that of course there are a lot of good people in America there is a lot of interracial dating and interracial marriage in this country . You have a lot of young white, latino and oriental teens who crossed over to rap and hip hop and R&B sounds (I always thought that music was universal)
Even when I was a kid whites loved Motown, MIcheal Jackson,Prince, ect.. and now you have people like 3rd Base (that was a white rap duo in the 1990's) and Eminem of today breaking the color barrier and crossing over to that type of music.
My point is that several things have kept us at odds and seperate in this country and some things have bought us together like music and recently blacks and whites, latinos, orientals ect.. of this country did come together for a common cause and elected President Obama because the majority of us agreed that no matter what color, creed or religion you were we knew it was a time for change
In my opinion racism will always exist in some peoples mind you can't control that noone can you can't tell people how to think you can voice your opinion and suggest a better way of thinking but thats about it people have to want to change there are a lot of stubborn people who have their views on mixing the races be it in schools or jobs they are dead set against integration and thats how it is a lot of people where taught that behavior it isn't something your born with its a learned behavior.
And with these types of people thats all they know because its what they were taught no sense to me trying to convince them it will only lead to argument and slurs there is a saying
A man convinced against his will Is of the same opinion still
Not sure who said it but my husband told me about that quote
I any case one of the things we can do in this country is to focus on a positive pace leading towards more change for the better
Well theres my mini short story
Glad You Posted This Topic Although Controversial Its A Good One!

Racism is passed down from generation to generation, and now what makes it worse is people are using the internet for their hateful comments against others. I've been on youtube and was shocked to see how many raciest comments that people make on there. Thank God it's not allowed on here.

To tell the truth i did not believe that i would ever see a black man President in my life time. But he won the election so that should say something.....about how far this country has come.
Their has been a lot of protesting going on all over the country the last few months. and i believe that it is because of the issues and not anything to do with the color of the Presidents Skin.
I grew up in a community that was very mixed with all races, so at a young age i learned to be friends with everybody, all colors...and i learned to look at the person and not the color.
