beating addiction

bit of a personal one this but i feel more comfortable on here since i get a lot of support from people. i think i have an addictive personality - used to smoke and have been known to go on alcoholic binges - not all the time i hasten to add and i don't go nuts after having one beer - they were always deliberate attempts to get drunk. now i am never violent or even especially annoying when i did this but the after effects were horrendous. not worth blotting things out briefly for. have you been addicted to anything and how did it affect your life?
