Is the state too involved in parenting issues...

I saw a similiar case in Texas. Someone reported the woman for keeping so many children, and she was "supposedly" getting her liscense for keeping those children. The truth is, they were doing drugs in the house, while the children were there. Sometimes the kids were outside, with an older child watching them.
Another case that i personally witnessed, was "supposedly" neighbors watching neighbors kids, and i arrived on the scene, where the boy had his pants down, the girls were having a good laugh of it, until they saw me. The truth is, in that situation, a ten year old girl was left alone, to watch nine children, while the parents of both sets, went off to have a fun day of shopping. I sort of ended that little spree, of each having their fun. One set of those parents, happened to have been my own child. Angrily, i informed them of what could have happened if social services had arrived, before i did. A concerned neighbor had called me, and i arrived within a few minutes.
There are more and more of these same set of circumstances happening every day. No i don't approve of someone keeping a lot of kids, even if it is just the neighbor, because i have seen on several occasions, what can, and often times, does, happen.

It sounds to me like people need to worry about their own lives. At the same time, it just sounds like we are hearing her side of the story. If she was just babysitting for an hour or so in the morning, then she shouldn't have any problems. But it sounds like someone actually had some kind of proof against her. Even so, as long as the kids are safe and happy, I don't see why the state should step in. The only thing I can think of is the child-to-adult ratio. I know that here in Virginia, you are allowed to babysit only so many kids at a time before you have to apply for a daycare license. I really can't say this is true in this particular situation because I haven't seen the newscast. Anyway, now that I am finished rambling, I agree with you. People should butt out, even though I can kind of understand it if the kids were causing problems in the neighborhood such as vandalism. But I don't think that is the case here.

No I think the mom that needs this other woman to watch kids cause she has to go to work at that time should be allowed too.
How is it a day care when its only an hour.

Another nail in the coffin of Liberty, thanks to the nanny-staters who think it's the government's business to micromanage every aspect of our lives. What's next? If you carpool with your neighbor and take their kids to school with your own will they now say you need a livery license?

This issue has been a major deal on all the talk shows and news. No I do NOT agree. I think it is a crock. What is our society coming to when a friendly neighbor is only being kind to be accused of breaking the law. I think is is a damned shame.

It's alarming. I know people will have all kind of excuses for this, but it is ridiculous. The government is too involved in everything these days.

It sounds like to me that this woman was being neighborly and trying to help her friends. People can be so nosey, can' they? I have to deal with nosey people all the time, too, but I guess we all do. I just wish people would mind thir own business, myself. She must have been looking after a lot of kids if the person thought she was running an unlicensed day care center. that's law now in my area too.they were claiming kids were getting abused/neglected.
they won't let people sit other people's kids anymore,and yet one place they did give a licence to let a monster kid (and i do mean monster) bite other children and even ripped this other kid's eyelids off.

That's a dirty shame! I would be utterly po'd on if someone did this to me!

The fear of some sicko hurting my kids is why I am just driving them to school until 2 of them are on the bus togeather. However I will stay at the bus stop with them as we live near a busy intersection and someone could just shove them in a car and disappear in the traffic or they could run into the road and get hurt. Sadly it takes 2minutes to get to school & they don't come to get her til like 5min before the bell rings!! She likes the time to hang out with her friends. ANd if they did door to door pick up seeing where we are located I'd be ok with it but they don't.

That sounds crazy. I mean why does she need to open a daycare center whe she is only watching her friend's kids for a hour. I tell you people do need to mind their own lives. If she had hurt a child I could see complaining or calling it in.I think some people have nothing better to do with their lives.
