Do you confess your sin?

Yeah, that's what I also thought when I was kid, priest are like us they make mistakes and so why confess my sin to them? that's what I asked to my mom. She told me that priest devote their life to God and thus God give them right and authority to forgive people through His name, it was their job and God blessed them. Until I made my first confession and communion. I was so happy, and I felt like there's something heavy taken in my heart and it felt good. I felt like I'm floating. That was then I believe to what my mom said. And of course I also confess my sin to God I talked to Him everyday.

I, along with the Bible, disagree with you. Nowhere is it written that confession must require a priest in order to be valid. That is Old Testament belief that this clings to, where a sacrifice must be brought to the temple (or church nowadays), the sin confessed to a priest, and then the sacrifice slaughtered (not really practiced anymore) for the sin to be forgiven. Jesus came to take out the middleman...in this case, the priest. True, it says that confession of your sins must occur to be forgiven them, but it is no man's place under heaven to forgive any man's sins. When Jesus was questioned in Luke about man's place to forgive sins, he said, "your faith has saved you...go in peace". Confession has nothing to do with a priest, regardless of whether or not they have devoted their life to God or not. He is still a man, and thus, still sinful, regardless of another's perception of him.
So answer me this...why did Jesus come to die if we still have to see a priest for confession? Seems like a waste to me. When the curtain of the temple was torn, God himself cut out the priests and made a way for all of man to come into the holy of holies to commune with him directly. No priest will ever hear my confession of sins, as that is between God and myself.

Hi ChaoticBeauty, forgive me, but have you read the Bible in its entirety? If you have, then you must have encountered a portion there where the sacrament of confession was instituted by Jesus our Lord. The Catholics are only obeying.

Hello ChaoticBeauty, for Roman Catholic priest is the one whom Jesus Christ assign and called to spread His words and continue His works. And so as give the priest His blessings and authority to forgive sins. Jesus did forgive our sins through His death, and only through His death we receive the Holy Spirit that guide us and help us not to fall into sin. But Jesus give us free will and choices that make us enable to commit sin.

When it comes to confession it's still better to confess our sin to the one whom we hurt and asked forgiveness. Priest is the one who will guide us and help us do the right thing and through the name of Jesus we will be forgiven.

It's a priest job to hear our sins and never tired. And it's our responsibility to come to them and confess our sins. Venial sins when stock for many months and years can be big, and still it felt good to tell our sins to priest.

I know. But our parish vicar said that if our sins are slight and trivial, he would rather take a rest. Anyways, the venial sins I was referring to was something like countering a reckless driver by saying "Hope that happens to you, too." But of course I don't mean it. I was just angry at the moment because I do not like reckless driving.
