Peter, Paul and Patty |
| |
| So we're still listening to the Peter, Paul and Mary CD in the car. Dearra syas to me this morning, "Mom, why didn't they call it Peter, Paul and Patty?" "Um, because her name is Mary." "Yeah, but it doesn't fit." "How about Peter, Paul and Paradox?" "Peter, Paul and Pathetic?" Then she says, "well at least I don't have to listen to Right Field today". For some reason she's taken a dislike to that particular song. So I said, "I can move it to that song." "NO!!!" Goes into a 12 year old tirade about why the song is so stupid, "it's sung badly, it's about a kid who's awkward and slow", bla bla bla... So I said, "it's an inspirational song. It's about a boy who is awkward and then one day he makes a brilliant catch." "I don't care. I don't like it. Do you like it Naomi?" "NO!!!" So I said, "well Cary likes it!" "No he doesn't. Do you like it Cary?" Said very softly, "no"... So I went into my Dearra imitation. "Geez, people. It's a song about a boy who thinks he can't do something and then it turns out he can. He feels better about himself. It's a beautiful song. WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!!!" OK well they still don't like the song, but it got a laugh. | | | | | |

| | I had to sleep in a box room with no window when I was a child. My mother produced more kids than we had bedrooms for, and had she not got divorced I expect she would have continued to. 5 kids in a 2 bedroom house, I never saw daylight until I was 13. | | | |

| | Hi dawn, How about Peter, Paul and Parable? I think this combination would work better. Now coming down to the children not liking the song played repeatedly is natural. Possibly then want something new and you have to bow down to pathetic. | | | | | | |

| | Peter, Paul and Parable is actually very appropriate. It's almost time to change the CD. But they don't like the song to be played even once! | | | |

| | Oh I will eventually change the CD. Probably to the Beatles. They never complain about the Beatles. But I like expanding their little horizons occasionally! | | | |

| | Know what? Sometime children play pranks this way. Like say one likes number 'A' and the other 'B' and the third one 'C'. And they do it on purpose so that they get new stuff and you are vexed. | | | |

| | "Peter Paul and Passed Over" now I am afraid Dawn. When you are 12 you are so certain that you're right that nobody else can possibly change your mind. Having been 12 for some years I know that for a fact! | | | | | | |

| | Well, come to think of it--you could really confuse them by explaining that Paul's name isn't really Paul at all! lol I swear it's just impossible to explain one generation's music to another. When my parents would complain about the music I was listening to in the 60's and 70's--I would be indignant. And I would say to them, oh yes--your generation's music was so much better. The Purple People Eater and Getta Job--extremely enlightening! lol | | | | | | |

| | hehe Actually the kids often like what I decide to put on, though they haven't exactly warmed up to opera or Broadway. But it's time to change the CD. The girls are complaining a little too often... :-) | | | |
