It depends on the purpose of the meeting. I'm a freelancer, so sometimes have to meet strangers by appointment from YM or email to discuss work.
But if you're talking about online dating going offline, then I agree with you. It could be dangerous.

I'd totally give online dating a chance. I'm married and met my husband through an ad (internet dating wasn't quite happening yet). I talked on the phone for a couple months before meeting him in person. When we did meet, it was at a public place and I had my friends following us. I think as long as you have common sense, follow your gut instincts, and take precautions like sticking to a public place, not giving out personal information like last name, address that it will work out fine. Many people meet their spouses this way.

If you want to make a date with someone you just know from internet better you bring along your friend.

If u r not meeting the person in some lonely place, there is no danger..Both girls & boys should have the courage to deal with every situation..even before the meeting u should judge the person by whatever conversation u had....

It all depends. I have met up with people I meet off the internet. We both mutually agreed to meet in public - in a coffee shop. We both are coupon clippers so we ate lunch and traded coupons and just talked. I wouldnt fel comfortable if the person was a male or meeting in someones home or not where others frequent.
