GREER, S.C. -- Workers at the Pelham Waste Water Treatment Plant discovered a human fetus Sunday morning, authorities said.

Greenville County Deputy Coroner Scott Ramsey told FOX Carolina the fetus was found in a waste bin inside the treatment facility -- not in the water -- at about 7 a.m. Sunday.

Ramsey said it’s uncertain on how long the fetus had been there. However, Ramsey confirmed to FOX Carolina that the fetus did come through the water system at some point.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office said the fetus was fully intact with a developed head, body, fingers and toes. A spokesman for the sheriff's office said a couple of workers cleaning out a waste bin discovered the fetus
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit is working on the case. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning.

Melissia McKinney, with the GCSO, said this is the first case of it’s kind in Greenville County. McKinney also said the autopsy will be key in determining how investigators will move forward and in which direction.

oh my god! people are just sick! i think people who do things like that to babies are cowards! they know that the babies are helpless so they kill them and leave them somewhere! why not give the babies up for adoption or something? it's better than killing a baby like that and abandoning them in a waste plant!

I know I try to adopt a boy a few years ago cause his mom left him in the hospitail when he was born an I have 2 daughters so I was called cause I couldnt have no more children due to health problems an I said yea we want him well three day later he was taken away cause his mom changed her mind an wanted him back so she broke my heart an god knows what she is doing to that angel now but u are right you dont want the child there are enough people who would love a baby give it to them
