| | | | | | 1. vonmac (2506) | 3 months ago | My husband thinks that Manchester United will win it again, and he thinks Chelsea will be second and Arsenal third, and Liverpool will be 4th He says he thinks it might be next season before there is any real change in the pecking order. Next season he expects Manchester City and Spurs to be in the mix as well, and the top four will become a top six.

lakerfanster (448) | 3 months ago | I agree that the top four will become a top six, I thought so from the start of the season with Harry Redknapp in charge for a whole season at Spurs and With Manchester City's improvement. It will certainly be a great season the way it has started. I of course pick Manchester United for the title as a United supporter but I feel Chelsea will be very close.

| | 3. akuler (1217) | 3 months ago | Hi parker,
I think it is too early to make any conclusion who will win the Barclays premier league this season. They just play 8 games and there are 30 games more to play. We might can see a more clear picture after December. There is 6 team that capable to win the title this season which is Chelsea, Manchester united, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
All of the team also still compete in 4 cups. This also a main factor to decide the winner. The more they play the more pressure and stamina needed. Their focus also might altered especially when its come to European Cups (Champion League and Europa League).
Chelsea is currently lead the table from 7 win out of 8 games they have played so far. Chelsea is a strong team and a complete one. And Carlo Ancelotti is one of the best coach in the world. He know how to manage the team and take the best out of it. But they might have a problem when African Nation Cup started January next year. Ivory Coast and Ghana already qualify. So they can forget the service of Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda and Micheal Essien. Camaroon lead their group currently and that mean John Abi Mikcel might join his team mate in Angola.
Manchester United, as a title holder, always come with a big ambitions. They key factor is their consistency and the brain of Sir Alex Ferguson. They also have a luck with them (goal in injury time against Manchester City and Sunderland). Their only problem is they still depend on Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes to give extra injection to the team. They are not young anymore and they can not play all the time and need extra rest after each game.
Arsenal might have play their best part currently. They play a beautiful games and score a lot of goals. Their squad is their advantage and disadvantage. They have a young squad and they always play their heart out. They can run and run all over the field. But this is also their disadvantage. They lack of experience. And experience is very vital especially when you face a loses and during March, April and May when it is close to the end of the season.
Even though they already lost 3 games (to Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Chelsea), we can not just forget them. In term of points, there are only 6 points that separate them with the pacesetter, Chelsea. Their main advantage is their scoring power. It is not only come from the striker but also from midfield and defender. Their problems is the defender. They are lack of concentration lately. They only can hope that Mascherano will always play to cover the defender. At the same time it is good to see how Alberto Aquilani will fare in the English league.
This season, Manchester City will be the other team who can give the "big four" team run for their money. They spend heavily this season to bring some of the best best in English league to The City of Manchester Stadium. So basically everyone know how English premier league is played and need less time to adept. Just like Chelsea, they will lose some player to a month long African Nation Cup. They will lose Kolo Touré since Ivory Coast already qualify and might lose Emmanuel Adebayor if Togo can go to the final.
There is nothing much we can say about Tottenham Hotspur. Their best now is the strikers. They seem to score at will currently. They also have a good coach in Harry Redknapp.
So it is too early to make a prediction and a lot of factors can change the result of play.

| parker17 (3) | 3 months ago | Great answer akuler.. you make a good point about the african cup of nations. Losing Drogba, essien, malouda, and possibly mikel all at the same time is going to be a massive blow. and also how much will they be affected now that they are not allowed to buy players in the tranfer market. we could see players leaving because of this, and the other top teams having the ability to strengthen their squads. I think it'l be interesting to see how manchester city will do over the course of the season, they'v looked fairly decent so far. I personally think that Tottenham are just quite not their yet, but it would be good to see them make a challenge, they have a decent team and manager! And yes the champions league could be major, the big four teams may be concentrating on this a lot, but i think the only thing that could make liverpool fans happy is for them to finally win the premiership. You can never right off Man Utd, but im sticking with Chelsea for now:)

emmanola (212) | 3 months ago | Hi Akuler, I think there is a need to clarify some information you presented.
I think Florent Malouda is a French and not from Cote d'Ivoire. John Obi Mike is a Nigerian and not from Cameroon as you stated. The chance of Nigeria qualifying for the South Africa 2010 is very slim indeed; the country currently trails Tunisia by two points with only one game remaining to be played by each team. For the final game, Nigeria travels to Nairobi to play Kenya while Tunisia will be hosted by Mozambique. On paper, Kenya is weaker than Mozambique and it may be less difficult for Nigeria (on a good day) to defeat the team. On the other hand, it may not be easy for Tunisia to beat Mozambique (on paper!) although I don't think it'll be easy for Tunisia to lose the match. That match may end as a draw and that will be enough for Tunisia to qualify for the world cup even if Nigeria wins in Kenya. This is because both Tunisia and Nigeria will have the same number of points but Tunisia will be the group winner courtesy of the "head to head" rule.

| | 8. emmanola (212) | 3 months ago | To be candid it's difficult to say with any certainty the team that will win this season's premiership. I, however, agree that the winner is likely to be any of the top four teams and, may be, any of Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspurs.
I feel a bit confident to say that I feel Manchester may not win the league this time. Chelsea seems to be the most determined team to win. However, with Chelsea losing key African players next January (Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou for Cote d'Ivoire, Michael Essien for Ghana and John Obi Mikel for Nigeria) due to Africa Cup of Nations (Angola 2010), the team may suffer some setback. I feel the big spending Manchester City may suffer more defeats than anticipated and lose out of the top spot.
Liverpool hasn't looked like a team interested in winning the premiership this season. However, the team has the fighting spirit to stabilize and challenge for the top spot. It'll be wrong for any analyst to write off Arsenal on the premise that Arsenal's players are young and inexperienced. I disagree. The boys are fast becoming men and this may well be Arsenal's year.
