PC receiving errors and virus due to free download pirated softwares/games?

I have seen many discussions saying that My PC infected with virus due to download this or while clicked on this site.. Do you think it's just because now we are moving to pirated world more and hackers/crackers bind virus with cracks and keygens and install viruses in remote system..?? Should we use genuine softwares to get rid from viruses? For a little song/software, is it fair to put your system under unsafe state? I don't think so.. though I download pirated software sometimes.. but I guess Operating System and Antivirus should be original version with upto date definition and updates.:-)
