From recent news, office depot was sued for millions of dollars for overcharged its customers while customers were self check - out at the scanner machine to scan their items.
It might happen to other stores too. When you see the price on the shelf, the price is totally different from the scanner when you scan the items. Whether its the person who input the data make a mistake, or something else. The price is usually higher. So, one advise, when you check out your item, do the best you can to remember how much the items worth in your memory or make a note. If it has difference, talk to the manager or personnel on duty.

I've experienced this before when the scanned price is different from that displayed on the shelf. Even though the difference may be small; about a few cents but it'll make a big difference in the end if there were more than one item being priced differently. My husband made quite a big scene about the fact and the cashier immediately had to call the manager to rectify the situation. He explained that the system hasn't updated the price yet. I don't understand why these people when there are mistakes or errors they always blame the system. As if the system can work on its own. Why can't he say the clerks haven't updated the price in the computer. Why always blame the system? A entity you don't even know.
