I wish doctors knew what was wrong with my back. I have suffered back pain for around ten years. It started in middle school. They did xray and mri, but didn't find out the problem. It mainly hurst in the center but sometimes up top in between shoulder blades.

i've got fibromyalgia and i can definatly say that back pain is one of the symptoms, also if you've had a spinal block or epidural(can't remember which) that can lead to back pain

I think the most common source of back pain is due to improper lifting. and my tips includes:

1. Plan the lift. Before attempting to lift or more something heavy, it is important to step back and analyze what needs to be accomplished. Think of about how heavy the object is, how far it has to be moved, etc.

2. Correct positioning. Get help if needed. If the load is too heavy, don't try to lift it alone. Bend the knees and tighten the stomach muscles. Using both hands, grasp the object firmly and pull it as close as possible to your body.

3. Lift with the legs, not the back. Since leg muscles are stronger than back muscles, lift with the legs and avoid jerky movements.

Note: This tips I write were taken from one of my articles at Associated Content.

thanks for posting these! my neck and shoulder muscles need a massage, i want to go get one soon. also poor posture can lead to back pain. i think this may be a part of my problem. but the main problem is that i'm overweight, and the added weight is hard for my back to carry.
