Just like offline there are a lot of negative things happening online too. Some go and click ads excessively causing those who use Google to lose their accounts. Others cheat and when they get caught they neg rate whoever they think found them.

I am not aware of anyone in particular who does this but if they do it then they suffer too for doing it. The rating system is set up so that if a user neg rates another one purposely then their own star will suffer too and will go down. Maybe not everyone reads this in the FAQS. Some complain about their own star and it is their fault that it is decreasing in the first place.

Hello there! Well, that was some kind of trolling. According to FAQ, if a member use the DRS improperly, such as giving negative rating to a post even it is useful and of good quality, the reputation of the user who do that trolling will also be affected. Anyway, if you got negative rating from your posts, you can still recover because more members will give positive ratings when you post quality content and only the troll will get negative rating. The DRS was nice because it makes users keep on posting quality discussions, responses and comments. And as stated on the FAQ, the rating or also called mylot reputation can also affect the participation earnings.
