Virus on Profile

Not the first time I've heard of somebody picking up a virus from Yuwie. Usually it's from the Ads though I can see how it might be from something somebody added to their profile too.

This is a bad thing. I ceased to use yuwie long a go but I know from friends this kind of things happen time to time, not necesarely on youwie, but I know frineds who got "infections" from myspace or hi5 and even from twitter (several months a go, there was epidemic, luckyly twitter admins managed to solve it).

I think you should report the problem to admins of that site and give them as much details as you can.

With the popularity of social sites and the great amount of traffic they receive, one should realize that it is also a hang-out for hackers and those who would do harm. Not only ads, but many of the aps have Trojans, spyware and even viruses for the purpose of gaining access to your personal information.

It is wise to read all the 'terms of service' before using applications. Many I will not use because they gain access to some of your personal info.

Another way to ensure your PC and info is protected is to be sure to use a good anti-virus program that can be updated daily or at least weekly. Some free ones that are exception are Avast and AVG.

Be sure to have a firewall installed to prevent access to your computer. Free for personal use is Commodo.

Run scans daily for spyware and trojans, if not daily at least weekly. Spybot and Adaware are free programs that can be run to check if any malicious spyware has crept into your computer.

If you have a good working, recently updated anti-virus program it should warm you when you get on a page where there is a virus. Some programs can be set to automatically shut down the browser before you gain access to the infected site.

Implement these programs and they will help greatly to avoid problems with viruses, spyware and Trojans and your social site surfing will be much more enjoyable.

That is a pretty common problem on yuwie and will continue to be until the admin decides to do something about it which i doubt he ever will since he really doesnt care much....
I have gotten a virus TWICE from yuwie profiles which is why i stopped accepting most new friend offers....
Unfortunately some peoples profiles are infected and they dont even know it so like you i think it is in someones layouts that they created.

as a matter of fact i logged into yuwie last week and sent out some comments and this week i found 4 viruses on my virus scan...not positive they came from there but I'd bet they did.

Yuwie is pretty much just a grave yard now anyway.....

It's not unheard of; I reported a profile here at myLot a little over a month ago (the user's name was jakker27) that had a virus on it, and admin investigated and removed the account.
