How does RSS work?

It is simply a method that allows a publisher to set up certain feeds such that anyone using a RSS reader can subscribe to that feed and automatically pull down the syndicated information.

RSS works by having the Web site author maintain a list of notifications on their Web site in a standard way. This list of notifications is called an RSS feed. People who are interested in finding out the latest headlines or changes can check this list. Special computer programs called RSS aggregators have been developed that automatically access the RSS feeds of Web sites you care about on your behalf and organize the results for you.

Producing an RSS feed is very simple. Whn you have built a blog, then you can join Feedburner, which is designed so that you can apply one or several to your feed.

In a way, it's actually like a bookmarking service and by embedding the code onto say, your blog, if you have visitors wanting to keep in touch with your blog updates, they can add your url feed for future reads/visits and updates.
