Ur Most Exciting Moment in Baseball  email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 92/100. gifana (2229) 6 years ago

I have two exciting moments...the first was when Ted Williams hit a home run his last time at bat in Fenway Park. The second was the reaction of Carlton Fisk when he hit his home run in the 1975 World Series.

Mine was definitely when the Florida Marlins won the World Series in 1997 after only 4 years in existence. We were at my sister-in-law's house and everyone had gone to bed except myself and my husband's aunt (she was about 10 years old than I was at the time). She was from Ohio and I'm from Florida. The two of us watched the final game, each rooting for our own team (we were playing Cleveland). We got so excited at the end that we ended up waking everyone up to let them know the outcome. Not sure they appreciated it, but they missed all the excitement by going on to bed.

myLot reputation of 92/100. gifana (2229)  6 years ago

Great story.... I could feel the exhuberance vibrating way over here. At least you know how I felt with Pudge Fish hit that homerun....despite the fact The Sox didn't beat the Reds. Johnny Bench and company were just too good for us. I think it was the most exciting series up until the Red Sox tho down three games to none in the playoffs with the Yankees came back and won the next four and then went on to win the Series in four straight. It ended a drought of 82 years for the Sox.

myLot reputation of 94/100. claudia413 (2540)  6 years ago

Yes, I know how you felt. It was a long time coming for the Sox. I don't usually watch baseball, but I can't help but get involved when it's World Series time.

myLot reputation of 92/100. gifana (2229)  6 years ago

I miss it....there is very little interest in the game....they have a "professional" league but I think they only have 6-8 teams. I haven't been to any games because there are none in the immediate area and I don't have a car anymore. I watched the play by play of the Boston series games but only written play by play on ESPN. Used to have games on NATO radio station here in Oeiras but since the American contingent has been reduced the radio station no longer exists.....boo hoo hoo.

Sorry to hear that...I'd sure miss the World Series.

Thanks for the best response.

myLot reputation of 92/100. gifana (2229)  5 years ago

You're welcome. For some reason after reading your first response I suddenly remembered that my mother never got to see the Boston Red Sox win the World Series. She would have had to be well supplied with "depends" (she would have been in her 80's) with the most fantastic World Series of all times. Who would have thunk that the Sox would beat the Yankees in the AL playoffs having to win the last three games (2 in New York) and then going on to win the series in four straight.

Mine would probably be when the Astros finally made it to the World Series. They are my favorite team. :)

myLot reputation of 92/100. gifana (2229)  6 years ago

I know that feeling....Ive been a Red Sox fan since before I was born....my mother was a fanatic and listened to all the games on a crystal set with my grandfather....each had an earphone. The Sox made it to the Series four times in my lifetime but only hit it big a couple of years ago. Thanks for response.

myLot reputation of 96/100. PatriciaL (1450)  6 years ago

Yeah, it's a great feeling. You're welcome!

i wasnt even here when you first posted this.i will have to have a look through your early work.
right baseball, most exciting thing i ever saw was when i was watching it once, the power went out and i was saved the ordeal of watching the rest of the game.it had just started to.that day,i did believe that there could indeed be a god.

myLot reputation of 92/100. gifana (2229)  5 years ago

ROFLMAO. Baseball to you is like crickett for me. I have always thought about looking up the game to see what it's all about but never did find the courage. There isn't any crickett in Portugal and the only European sports channel I get is Eurosport and I have never seen a crickett game on the scedule. So I guess I will come to the end of the line one day without ever knowing anything about the game. Win some, lose some.....the story of my life!!!!

myLot reputation of 83/100. jimbo45 (9380)  5 years ago

im not really a cricket lover as such.scotland are in the world cup.i didnt know that till yesterday, that sums up ky knowing of the game.

myLot reputation of 92/100. gifana (2229)  5 years ago

Thank goodness I wasn't looking for help on the rules or play from you. I would have been disappointed. On the other hand after being "around" you these last few months nothing surprises me any more....

Maybe when Reggie Jackson hit 3 home runs on three consecutive pitches in the World Series for the Yankees in Yankee Stadium. That was some feat. Even if Jackson was kind of a jerk, it was still something to see. The funny part is, when someone asked Sparky Lyle if he was surprised Jackson hit the third pitch for a homer, Lyle said he would have been surprised if he Didn't hit a home run on the pitch beacuse he said Reggie was so pumped up.

myLot reputation of 92/100. gifana (2229)  5 years ago

Yeah, I read about it in the papers. Haven't lived too muchin the States so all the news I had was from the papers. Baseball whether at the ballpark or on TV is one thing that I miss most. However, Reggie Jackson was never one of my favorites. Being a Red Sox fan nothing about the Yankees ever turns me on. Thanks for dropping by.

Just a suggestion but I think it would be wise for you to make sure you go back to the top when you type your response so that you can be in line for Best Response. You still get credit for this comment so you didn't lose anything.

I watched baseball few years ago because my brother liked baseball, I still remember the world series in 2004 when the boston red sox won 4 games in a row to beat the New york Yankees and won the title, it was the only team in baseball history which could have a comeback victory in a seris down 0-3.

myLot reputation of 92/100. gifana (2229)  5 years ago

That was an exciting serious. Everyone one of us Bosox fans after finding the team down 3 grams in the playoff series starting thinking about "next year", as we have done so often in the past 82 years. Up to that point the other World Series which was exciting was the 1975 Series which pitted Boston against the St. Lous Cardinals and Carlton Fisk's homerun that tied the series in the sixth game. The photo of him "pushing" the ball over the "green monster" in leftfield is a classic. Thanks for dropping by and your input.

I'm getting into this convo WAY late. I go back a while. One of my early memories of baseball is watching Bill Mazeroski hit a HR over Yogi's head (in left field) to win the 1961 World Series for my beloved Pirates (saw that one on tv. Another one is watching Willie Stargell hit one over the second deck in right field & out of the stadium in old Forbes Field (saw that one live).

myLot reputation of 92/100. gifana (2229)  5 years ago

I have always been a Sox fan so never really knew too many players in the NL. I know the names of Mazeroski and of course Yogi. I was in Mexico City in 1961 so I didn't get to see the World Series. Having lived outside the US for more than half my life it makes it hard for me to follow baseball anymore. I was "lucky" that Saigon fell in 1975 because I had a chance to be home for that fabulous series....which we lost to the Reds in the 7th game. Oh well. Thanks for coming by and giving some input.
PS: It's never too late to get in on a discussion....unless of course the best response has already gone.
