Would it take 3 days to re - connect a previous high speed internet service?

I simply don't understand. It was the AT&T mistake, and I have to bear the suffering, after they mistakenly disconnected my DSL service. Although I called to request the reconnection, the technician simply told me to wait 3 days for the re-activation. I was curious, would it take that long to re - connect it? Did you ever experience the same problem?
