Why do Americans insist on calling Football, Soccer?

For the rest of the world, its football, and what Americans call football is 'American Football', just as what they play in Australia is 'Australian Rules Football'.
I think they've been calling it the wrong name for long enough... lol

Well since we're still the greatest power on earth. People copy us, and emulate us, and want to move here! I think your going to lose this crusade! Now when China finally takes over the world, they'll call it something in Chinese, that is if they still let us play games anymore!

Well just be thankful you don't have my predicament. I was born and raised in England, moved to the USA where my family is but right now I am in England where my husband is from. I support Sheffield Wednesday, and have done so most of my life. In the USA my son-in -law coaches soccer - so I call it Football/ Soccer depending which side of the Atlantic I am on. LOL
