left over oil

When ever we use oil while cooking, we will be sauting, frying and deep frying according to our menu. After the deep frying, the oil remains. Doctors say that such oils should not be reused as it causes some health problems. But some people reuse it for seasoning or making chappatis or in some otherway. Our tenant lady just throws it away or give it to her servant telling that they don't reuse the used oil. What will you do with such oils. Reuse it or discard it or give it to someone?

It is only when you over heat the oil that it becomes carcinogenic which one should avoid at all costs. Moderately heated oil can be reused any number of times but it is recommended that you strain out whatever sediments may be present from the previous frying/sauting or whatever.

Oil is too costly these days, so I reuse it again and if I feel it has been used enough which is obvious from its change of colour, I give it to the maid servant. Thankfully we have had no health problems until now, and I would consider it a waste to throw good oil away.

Hi mistlady
i think you are a new comer with 27 posts and my hearty welcome to you.
Even I reuse it for seasoning or making chapati. In these days of high cost, throwing the expensive oil is something uncalled for. Thank you for your valuable views shared with me

Deep frying is not a regular thing in my house. Sometimes only I prepare vada, bajji etc. as they are not good for health and add to cholesterol. Hence reusing oil once in a way is ok I feel. Moreover I will not use the oil again and again. I will use for seasoning and the oil is used and will not come back for reuse.

This a very good idea. Even I will use the reused oil once or twice, then filter the sediments and store in a bottle. When ever I want to make chapathi, i will use it or use it for seasoning but I won't throuw it.

I think we should give it to some one who would be happy to get it for free. Once or twice used oils may not harm much. But at the same time those who receive it will be very happy as it is free for them. I think it is better not to use the oil more than once in any home.

Yes. You are true. Again and again using the reused oil, defenitely causes health hazard. because while heating, it produces some chemicals which is not good for heart. so it is better to give it to some one else who feels happy for getting it free

Yes. you are right. i too will store it in a separate bottle and use it for seasoning or making chapattis. I don't know why anyone should throw it in a sever when there are people ready to take it and use it

But instead of throwing it, you can keep it in a separate bottle and use it for seasoning, or give it to your servant maid. Why should we throw it, when there are people who can use it.
