I also agree with you as Gambhir and Sehwag seem to complement each other beautifully and seem to build big partnerships easily and are probably amongst the best opening pairs in the world today if not the best, and they should be given a chance to open together. Sachin at any position is formidable and cannot be allowed to bat outside the top three. Therefore one down should be the place for Sachin at the moment. It is to say nothing of the maestro's class, just that Gambhir and Sehwag seems to be the best opening pair available at the moment.

No, I think that sachin should stay at his position of opener because he is india's main batsman and should get maximum overs to play and also the advantage of power plays.

During past days sachin was used as a hitter. He was called as man of records. But now he is not a hitter. he likes to play slow and steady game, where he can build partnership with any player. First fifteen players were used as a powerplay, at that time we doesn't need a slow batting. Gambhir was doing good thing. He can change his batting mode according to the situation, i think so. So he can give partnership with shewag as opener. Both players are doing good. I think sachin should be replaced to position third. So he can manage the innings.

I think that would be feasible for the Indian team if Sachin opts to play one down after Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag.At number 3 spot he can try to anchor the innings just as Rahul Dravid used to be doing for the Indian team for so many years.Also Sachin is a great player so he can play easily at almost any place and do well for the team.The right hand left hand combination at the top can help to make the bowlers goof up in their line and length and they won't get the time to adjust it.But it should be upto Sachin to decide whether he wants to come one down or he is happy to open the innings.

Yes, Sachin is more suited at No.3, because these days he is more of a accumulator rather than the master blaster which he used to be.
He can guide the innings and stay on till the end by playing the role of a sheet-anchor.
Sehwag and Gambhir compliment each other., having played together for Delhi Daredevils, Delhi Ranji Team and the Indian Test team. Most importantly, they make a left-right combination, which is a bowler's nightmare.

Indian team management is promoting Gambhir as opener only when Sachin is not in the team. If not they are preferring Sachin and Sehwag combination instead of Gambhir and Sehwag. I would prefer left and right hand batsmen in the top of the order. The bowlers will not have adjust their lengths much if 2 right handed batsmen are playing. I would prefer Gambhir and Sehwag as openers but Sachin is also good player at the top of innings than in the middle of innings. So, as long as Sachin is in ODI team he will be playing as opener..
