If you go to a market to buy some foods, like vegetables, fruit or meat product, that is to say, everything you eat daily, the peddlers always play tricks on the weight. say, if you buy a fish which he claims to weight 3 kilos, it actually is 2.7kilos. If you buy 6 kilos of bananas ,very likely you get 5 kilos ? see? that's why my mom always carries a mini scale in her handbag. I'm not sure whether things are the same in big chain supermarket. Theorotically, this won't happen. but who knows? since I'm living in a place with little safety in every aspects. (I'm from China.)

Hi Magic... No, we dont have such problems here...Im living in India. it happens in India but the place where im living, does not happen. Here electronic machines are used for weighing. I dont know, one can be even cheated with this machines are not...? I think they are safe. Take Care

It is still happening here the peddlers always cheating when it comes to weight of the meat or fish because this still using the traditional weighing scale. In electronic weighing you going to doubt if the equivalent weight and price is right or not.

We dont have problem even for that because here rates are fixed...what we have to do is, pay the amount to the peddler telling him i need this much kilos,he takes the money accoringly and then he sell us the fish or meat according to that.

hmm...well here in America we don't really have a lot of outdoor markets. We are starting to have farmer markets with local food, but they have electronic scales so you know it's exact. That's kinda funny to think of your mom with a mini scale in her purse but if it works then hey. :P

almost every time my mom finds out, the peddler would cut the price or add to the full weight. it's really common here. every day, every moment.

yeah, some people would do anything in order to gain more. Other stuff like, mixing class A with class B stuffs hoping that the buyer would not recognized them. I don't carry the mini-scale when buying things that needs it. But our market has a public weighing scale wherein you can re-check the actual weight of the goods you buy. And therefore apprehending the unscrupulous seller and report it to authorities. Its effective too as lesser and lesser seller are doing it now.
