Have you ever wonder where does the missing space goes?  |

 OK people im trying to save up some space on my disc. I have two partitions of 50.8 gb each. In the main disk i have 8gb free. As i select all and click on properties to see how much space i have occupied it says 34 gb. 34 gb is supposely the whole space that is occupied. So if we rest 50 minus 34 it would be 16 gb. But as i stated i have just 8 gb free. So mylotters i want to ask what happened to the 8gb im missing? Have it occured to you this?

I not sure about it, but you can try this:
(I will try to say this in simple language (laymans language) so that even those reading this discussion may understand it)
Right click the drive -> properties -> siak cleanup
A window will open up say 'Disk cleanup for (D:)'
Click on the 'more options tab' where you can find 'system restore' with this message 'You can free more disk space by removing all but the most recent restore point'.
Click on the 'clean up' button below that.
Now if you haven't done this for long time, it may take much time to free up the space and eventually you will find that many gb's of space will be free.

| 2. andybuddy (11) | 3 months ago |  Actually it's normal for all users that when they buy their HDD, they have less space than stated. It's not a fault in your computer. It's just that when the manufacturers produce your HDD, they rather state it at a round number. For example they would tell you 500GB space than 492. This is because there is no fix amount when they produce your HDD. There is always a plus and minus in the total. It helps to classify the size of the HDD in business.

For example my mp3 player has 4 gb of space but in reality there are 3.8 gb. But in this case is different, its stated clearly that my hard disk has 50.8 gb of space. So as you can see im missing some gb of space that should actually be there. Find it somehow weird. Try it yourself and see the results and please tell me wether you are missing space or not. 1. go to control panel
2. switch to classic view
3. to administrative tools
4. to computer management
5. click disk management
once you're in the disk management, you'll see the actual space and other information about your hard disk... hope this will help

| edxcast (523) | 2 months ago | Hi khian thanks for the response. Well im using windows wista and i was able to reach to disk management. It states that i have 50.89. Still i have 34 gb of used space, and i have 9 gb free. So im still missing like 7 gb that are nowhere to be found. Of course if i do right click on the disk it says im using 41 gb. But, if you see the picture you can see that all info on the disk is occupying 34 gb. So where does that 7 gb are being used? I already had made a disk cleanup, which help on finding 2 gb, but still i am missing some space. | |

| khian545 (27) | 2 months ago | So you're using windows vista,,, i'm not very familiar with vista but based on my experience this lost spaces on your disk is maybe used by your operating system,, it has something to do with the reserved space for the operating system's use and for automatic recovery,, because i know that vista has an autorecovery feature in case that the system is down,, maybe you should research about your operating system for much clarification with your discussion... | |

4.  nitin_hec (757) | 2 months ago | I can figure it out. 1 GB= 1024 MB. But Manufacturer take it as 1 GB= 1000 MB. So When a HDD of 80 GB Comes into computer, As computer can understand machine language it will be count as 72 GB sometime more or sometime less. | |

If i click on all the system folders(including hidden ones) it shows to me that its 34 gb of used space. If i go to my computer and click on the hard disk it shows im using 41 gb and having 9 gb free. So im kind of missing like 7 gb that goes where?? Thank you for your response anyway | |
